Today we’d like to introduce you to Raksha Sridhar.
Raksha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Bangalore, The Silicon Valley and the IT Capital of India. I moved to Jamaica, West Indies with my parents who are Medical Professionals, and pursued my education at a very young age. From my childhood days, I had a Flair for the Arts (Drawing, Painting, Designing, Calligraphy) which I excelled in quiet competently. To hone my skills in Arts and to pursue a career in the same I enrolled in the Art Institute of Houston, Texas in 2014 for a Bachelors in Fine Arts. My first achievement was being rewarded with an Honor Roll. I was criticized for the choice of Profession. But I had to realize my dream so I worked very hard and remained focused on my goals. I believe my parents emphasized on three things in Life Patience, Persistence, Perseverance which I am trying to practice in my daily life.
It is my long cherished dream to work in the Famed Hollywood and Colorful Bollywood and make a deep impact in Creative Graphics which is very close to my heart. The main reason I became a designer was because it was something that made me truly happy. I remember my freshman year of college: I was just getting into real design work with drawing, woodwork, photography, you name it. After one of my classes, I remember walking out of the design building with a huge smile on my face because I kept thinking, “I get to do this for the rest of my life. Every day I get to design and create something.” From that day on I took as many design classes as I could. And it didn’t matter what kind it was, as long as I was able to be creative, I was all for it! As I am Passionate about Innovation and Designing Solutions I will strive hard to strengthen my skills and make a successful career. I also worked as a Peer Mentor at the Art Institute of Houston, Texas. I was also the Founder and President of the Multicultural Club at the Art Institute of Houston. I also worked as a Social Media Intern at Nova Medical Centers, Houston, Texas.
Has it been a smooth road?
As a student after migrating from India to Jamaica initially I had to encounter a few changes like Culture Shock, Environment Hot (40 degrees Celsius) and Humid Climate, I was accustomed to the Pleasant weather in Mysore wherein the temperature never crossed 30 degree Centigrade Academic Transformation, Local English Dialect (Patois). With determination in my mind I was never deterred from any hurdles and bottlenecks, I went through my Grade 9 to 11 and entered College.
At college, I was Mentally Mature enough and ready for exploring opportunities that would come my way. I had joined the K club and involved in some of their activities. During college, I was studying for the SAT Exams and secured a score of 1630. I was a little disappointed in the beginning but did not prevent me from applying to Colleges in the USA. After a few attempts ultimately Lady Luck Smiled at me and my dream of studying in the USA had come true. I was Admitted to the Art Institute of Houston, Texas in April 2014 For A course in Bachelors of Arts in Graphic and Web Designing.
The Culture Shock I received here was sweet like honey because I had anticipated it coming and was well in receipt of it. Life is full of obstacles and challenges it is not a bed of roses one who overcomes it is the winner. Striving for the better should be the motto. I do believe in Divine Intervention without which every effort is a Big Zero. As the saying There is no short cut to success, But there are solutions to reach Success.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As we move towards the mid-21st century, it’s indisputable that web design is going to become increasingly important. As people live more and more of their lives online, digital user experiences will be the rock on which almost every big organization is built. There’s a demand for good software but broadly speaking, there aren’t enough good developers to build those things. And even if there were, infrastructure is something that takes lots and lots of time and attention, time that could be better spent on building features for customers. Web design is not just about resizing a site fit on the iPhone. There are a lot of details needed to be considered by the designers.
Building websites used to be slow, expensive, and hard to maintain. And it also meant you had to have a lot of skills, a lot of people. Now we’re putting the power back into the product builders’ hands. Which means you can spend less time maintaining these applications, more on customer needs. Having conversations with them, building things they need. And how should we discover what users need? Funnily enough, that’s something that’s changing.
