Meet Randi Poullard of Yoga Guide in Houston in Memorial and Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randi Poullard.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started yoga in the hopes of manifesting more patience in my life. After my first practice, I knew this would be something that would hold space in my life forever. I didn’t realize how much space, but I knew it was the beginning of a new chapter of my life.

I was 2 years into practice when I decided to get certified to teach yoga. I had just moved back to Houston and dived into an intensive YTT program.

My very first time teaching was with Suntouch Yoga. There are so many emotions involved when it’s time to teach your first class, and when I stepped off the mat after teaching that very first time I knew without a doubt I had found my calling.

From there, I have dedicated myself to serving others in the yoga community and wherever else I can weasel my way into getting people to breathe, move and feel good in their own mind and body.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? Absolutely… NOT!

While yoga seems like the most free-spirited, amazing job… the hustle is REAL. For yoga to be your only source of income, you have to love what you do and live mindfully. Luckily, I truly love teaching and sharing time, energy and love for the class.

So, for you guys that are reading this, give your teacher and extra long hug! They are working hard!

I find that another struggle is maintaining a balance of truth and realness with my students.

If you ever step on a mat in one of my classes, I lead with my heart. So, if my heart is full or if it is broken I tend to share that.

Is it overwhelming? Probably, but it is important for me to let students know that just because I teach yoga doesn’t give me a “majestical being” pass. I am a human, I do cry… and I don’t float around on a cloud sending out good vibes to the world all the time.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I teach yoga at Lifetime Athletic, Blackswan and Empower Fitness Lab here in Houston.

I typically teach a fluid and powerful flow that builds strength helps to create flexibility and harnesses playfulness into your own practice. I want my students to step off their mats sweaty with full hearts and clearer minds.

What were you like growing up?
I am the oldest of four kids. And I was, and still am the rebel.

It’s funny how things come full circle. I was going to say as a child I was a bit of a mess, Always pushing boundaries, getting into trouble, being a tab bit boisterous… and clearly old habits die hard.

I loved playing sports and still am a not so girly girl. Softball was my passion, but I also played soccer, volleyball, basketball (terribly) and even played on a football team when I was 12 with all boys.

My family is what keeps me grounded. We are all so completely different, but the love there is so strong. And the love I’m able to share today is because of the firm roots in love my family created.

Pricing:

  • Lifetime Athletic is $119/ month
  • Blackswan is donation based with an $88/month membership unlimited yoga
  • Empower Fitness Lab has a $20 drop in and also memberships based on your needs

Wow Randi I loved reading your story. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you and your family. I’m very happy your Mom shares lots of pictures. Wish you were so I could take some classes. Your poses are beautiful.
    Love you. Nanny Joy
