Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashan Carter.
Hi Rashan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Where do I begin with this question? I started this company because of my passion for mental health. I believe I started in elementary school listening to people and giving them my perspective on the struggles of the playground. My talkative ways were both a gift and downfall for me in those days. As I grew my passion grew, I didn’t know what it was called, but it fueled my passion, and social work found me. My journey lead me to become a crisis counselor after working with Hurricane Katrina survivors while being one myself. Therapy for me became an outlet and Purpose which fulfilled what my heart desired. Hence, Passion & Purpose Fulfilled.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As the poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes states, it has not been a crystal stair. I started my Masters of Social Work degree plan 3 months after losing my father and two weeks before Hurricane Katrina and losing everything. I then commuted for 2 months from Mississippi back to Louisiana by driving 2.5 hours daily to go to class. Then moving back to Louisiana to commute 45 minutes until school opened via instructional trailers. When I graduated, I had maintained being a full-time student, full-time crisis counselor, part-time sales associate, and intern for child protective services in a city that was still recovering from a devastation. While working towards my clinical licensure, I had surgery which left me with one immobile vocal cord, which left me hoping to be able to do the thing I love. However, through all the struggles, I was able to build my strengths and skills by God’s mercy and grace.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mental Health is not popular, but it is purposeful, is what I would want people to know. Mental health is not just diagnoses and disorders; it is also being able to love you in every aspect and way in which you present yourself. I am a mental health and wellness therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families through the tough stuff that they are grappling with. I am identified as “the passionate friend therapist.” I believe my approach of inspiration, influence, innovation, insight, and involvement sets my rapport with clients, which assists me with meeting them where they are. Passion & Purpose Fulfilled’s brand is based in comfort and ease for sharing, from its colors to office space to being open for the heart. I always share that I can’t give my blood, but I can give my heart and a listening ear. Since starting my practice, I have a video streaming monthly on BHC Media Group with the MIND Matters Mental Health and Wellness Channel, one publication Purposeful Life: A passion drives guided journal, and a co-authored book Taking the S off my Chest.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Helping people on their healing journey. It is important to me because everyone has the right to have a voice and to be heard even if it is within.
