Today we’d like to introduce you to RaShelia Mayfield.
RaShelia, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My vision was conceived shortly after graduating from college and giving birth to my first daughter. Something inside of me clicked once she was here, something that said, “teaching may have been your passion but ownership is your destiny.” I’ve always been a free spirit, passionate soul and a creative so being confined to a classroom just did not fit into that vision. So what was initially supposed to be a clothing line for children slowly evolved into a women’s clothing boutique. With styles to fit an array of different body types. I’ve always been one to take pride in dressing well and presenting myself in a way that my personality exudes through my clothing. I also take much pleasure in helping women do the same, rather it be dressing for their shape, budget or just plan lending a hand to someone who just wants direction for styling. I thrive on opportunities to empower women.
Time and again, I was constantly being told, “you should think about selling the things you wear, you should model etc.” and so often I shrugged that off like “oh no not me!” God has a very charming way of pushing you into the environment he created you to be in! My motivation I would have to say are my daughters, whom I want to constantly be an all-encompassing blueprint of a fierce brown-skinned woman who took hold of her destiny not only for me but them as well. So from all of this came Rose and Monroe.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! It was and is about as smooth as the road to Calvary. I’m learning everyday, letting my mistakes teach me to be greater and building in small pieces everyday.Through it all, I’d endure all of the highs and lows now on the front end so that the back end will be smooth sailing. Anything worth having will be tough but the reward will be so much more satisfying if you stay the course. I’ve had my moments of “ this must not be for me” simply because it was not moving at the pace I thought it should be. I had to quickly realize if God gave it to me easily and all in one bulk, I would not appreciate it as much.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rose and Monroe Boutique – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At Rose and Monroe we provide affordable yet classy pieces. Sizes to fit the in between a as well as the curviest of women. We want to be able to dress you for all occasions rather casual, after five or just comfort. We are an online boutique serving women to look and feel their best selves. I’m most proud of being able to be that realistic, obtainable owner. That I actually stepped out on faith and built this thing from the mud up. That I’m able to inspire so many young women by just being my authentic self as a CEO. I love to hear young women say “ you’ve inspired me” that lets me know that I’m doing something right and Gods light is shining through me.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
My city is a city of so much charm and authenticity. We have our own culture in this city and it’s not very traditional at all. I love that we are a hub of creativity, free spirits and also such class. We’ve bred some of the world’s greatest people, we have some of the best food cultures and let’s not forget the rich history!
