Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Sanders.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I created a podcast just because I wanted to kick it with my friends and have some interesting talks about a bunch of subjects. Once the podcast started to grow, I realized that I was a bit more of a creator than I had originally imagined.
One day I was in Specs looking for a new tequila to try and realized that trying random tequila was expensive and that I needed a new hobby. That’s when I decided to give wine a try. I was never big on it because I didn’t know much about it and thought it was a feminine drink. Boy was I wrong and I am so glad that I decided to take a journey and learn about the wine world. This is how the Hood Wine Connoisseur was created.
I take a random wine try and let my people know who I think would like it and if it is worth the money to get. I am the taste tester that you never knew you needed.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Its been probably smoother than most people’s journeys into the creative and entrepreneurship space. I am really doing something that I love so it doesn’t feel like work.
Please tell us about Hood Wine Connoisseur.
The hood Wine Connoisseur is a platform that I created to bring people an entertaining way of learning about wine. I really want my people to step outside of their comfort zones to really experience what all wine has to offer. So I try new wines every week so that my audience doesn’t have to get caught out at the liquor store or starting a big wine listing at a restaurant not know what they want and how to find it.
I specialize in creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in an industry that was mostly stuffy and pretentious. I want to make wine cool and bring it into the now.
I think I am among a small group of people who enjoy wine publicly that isn’t interested in fitting into the current wine culture but wanting to create a new one that is more inviting, fun, and lively.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important quality for me is being unapologetically me. I owe it to my audience to give honest opinions of wine. I am building trust with each and every video. I want people to trust that if they come to me for wine, they can be assured that it won’t be a waste of their time and money.
