Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca and Scot Jones.
Rebecca and Scot, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We have both always been drawn to Real Estate. We purchased our first fixer-upper right before our wedding and spent the first two years of our marriage ripping down walls and redoing every inch on the house. That was thirty-five years ago and we have repeated that same process many times since. We love working together to make a home extraordinary.
We were introduced to Home Staging a few years ago when we’re living in San Francisco, CA. We were both amazed by what a difference staging would make in a home. We always loved touring model homes and we found that viewing “staged” homes had a similar effect.
In 2015, when we moved back to Houston to be closer to family, we “staged” our home in California. We had 15 offers for the first weekend. We were completely convinced that staging works!
Shortly after we arrived in Houston, our daughter decided to sell her townhouse in Jersey Village. We volunteered to stage it for her. The townhouse was under contract in three days and the listing agent hired us to stage another home she was about to list. From there, it just took off.
We spend the next year, living and breathing home staging. We joined the Real Estate Staging Association (RESA) and attended their annual convention. We began purchasing furniture wholesale (and in bulk) and completed a home staging certification course through the Home Staging Resource (HSR). It was a whirlwind, but we loved it. By the end of the first year, we had staged 28 vacant homes, and completed 35 occupied staging consultations!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our biggest struggle is to not buy every beautiful piece of furniture and decor we see and add it to our inventory. I love going to the Furniture Markets in Las Vegas, North Carolina, Atlanta, and Dallas. They have so many beautiful things and we want them all. We just have to remember that each year when the real estate market slows down in November or December, we will have to make space for the items in our warehouse. Even though we have more than 3,000 square feet of warehouse space, winter storage is still our biggest struggle.
The Staging Team – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Staging Team specializing in what we call Casual Luxury Home Staging. By Casual Luxury, we mean beautiful decor that adds texture, subtle color, and warmth without being stuffy or formal. We want to create spaces that people will fall in love with and be able to visualize themselves living there.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
At The Staging Team, our goal is to help homeowners, Realtors, and Investors sell their homes faster and for more money. So, to be successful we have to be relentless in our attention to detail and we have to approach each home as if we were selling it ourselves. We always begin by asking ourselves: 1. what will buyers see as the benefits of buying this house, and 2. what will buyers see as the negatives of buying this house. Once we answer those two questions, we develop the best plan to highlight the benefits and minimize any potential negatives. Then we make it feel like home!
