Meet Rebecca Lankford of Studio 703 + RLD in Houston Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Lankford.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rebecca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started designing jewelry while working as a paralegal in the early 1990s. As my hobby began to flourish, I was inspired to perfect my craft and enrolled at the Glassell School of Art in Houston. The knowledge I gained from my work at Glassell launched me from a local designer into nationwide and international sales.

My business, Rebecca Lankford Designs (RLD) began in 1995 when the Koelsch Gallery in Houston picked up my line of jewelry. Now over twenty years later, Rebecca Lankford Designs has moved into the former space of the Koelsch gallery, now known as studio 703. We showcase my jewelry as well as other local artisans and give back to the community that has given me so much.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been blessed with a fairly smooth road by the grace of God.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the studio 703 + RLD story. Tell us more about the business.
We handcraft jewelry from start to finish under the same roof, which is rare in this industry. Our loyal clientele appreciate the details and quality of my work. Everything that comes out of our studio is a labor of love and like us, no two pieces are exactly the same. Every day I get to see the culmination of my success when I walk through the doors of this beautiful building. I never thought 20 years ago, working in my garage apartment, that I would now own my own retail space while maintaining my wholesale and production team.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck – hard work, faith and determination have gotten me to where I am today.
