Today we’d like to introduce you to Rechatter Brady.
Rechatter, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am originally from New Orleans, LA. I am the 7th out of seven children, five boys and two girls. I started singing at the age of four. I was motivated by my sister. She uses to sing at different events all over the city. I told my mom I want to sing like my sister and she told me to pray that night. My very first song was Yes Jesus Loves Me, Not long after, I started getting invited to sing at different churches for weddings and funeral. I didn’t start singing outside of church until I was freshmen in high school. My entire class mistook me for my sister, blocked both exits to the classroom until I sung. That led to school talent shows and eventually the WYLD citywide talent show. I placed first in 2000 and returned the following year as a special guest. That opportunity opened doors for more engagements, such as city council meetings, banquets and several other events.
In 2005, I was forced to move to Houston, TX after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. Home didn’t feel the same, so Houston became my permanent home. Living here has allowed me receive many great opportunities and meet great people. Almost every Sunday, I sing at the radio show Sunday Inspiration with The Wordmaticican on the Amazing 102.5. My most recent performance was at the Houston Millennials Mayoral Forum where I performed the National Anthem. I also participated in Indie Friendly Launch Concert where I had the pleasure of singing with Syd The Man. I am a part of the Ensemble at St John’s downtown, a resident singer with The TRUTH Project HTX, and a member of LOC, Inc. I debuted my original song “Lock and Key” as a singing telegram. I am currently finishing up my own project, so stay tuned… Singing is not my talent, but a gift so I use it to heal and touch people from 0 to infinity. My goal is to ALWAYS reach the hearts of people leaving them inspired and hopeful.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Struggles…? Yes, there have been many. I survived Hurricane Katrina!! In that same year, I was in the middle of a divorce. I was also diagnosed with fibromyalgia and it is painful!! Working out helps me to cope with it and very little medicine. I’ve struggled with rebuilding a relationship with my mother because of who I am and my lifestyle. In 2012, I watched my oldest brother deteriorate from brain injuries he sustained from an attack. He passed away on Father’s Day. In 2017, I watched my other brother take his last breath due to meningitis. In that same week, my dad had a heart attack and open-heart surgery. It’s been pretty rough, but singing helped me to get through and recover. Whatever mood I’m in, I’ll sing until I feel better and it works every time. I strongly believe that God and music saved me from myself. I also believe music and arts can heal any ailment.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rechatter The Songstress – what should we know?
Recently, I decided to get a DBA named Rechatter The Songstress in the city of Houston. With the help of the Arts Advocate the name Bird the Songstress was created and can be found on all of my social media accounts. If I am not going live on Facebook with The Wordmatician to take song requests from anyone who’s watching. Singing is business and my passion. What I am most proud of is the fact that I can use it at any given time. I now sing at the radio station Sunday Inspiration with The Wordmaticican on the Amazing 102.5. As Bird the Songstress, sung the National Anthem at the Houston Millennials Mayoral Forum and debuted my original song “Lock and Key” for a singing telegram. I was a part of the Houston Pride 2019 brunch.
I will continue to sing for The T.R.U.T. H. Project HTX as LOC Inc, weddings, and funerals. I try to make myself available whenever I am called, there is no platform too small. I get calls from friends and family just to uplift them at times. I love my gift. My niece @artzzy99 designed my logo and I am currently working on my patent. I am also registered with BMI to assure that I will get compensated when I sing my own music. What sets me apart from others…? I believe my anointing is different. I reach for the hearts and not just the ears of listeners. If touch one person, my purpose is fulfilled. Also, I’m not a “performer” I am a songstress.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I want to give a big shout out to my sister/best friend Jerhana Brady who motivated me to start singing when we were children. She uses to sing at churches, schools and weddings. I wanted to be like her. My mother Victoira Brady Farve for always encouraging me to be the best at whatever I do and teaching me to pray at all times. Every phone conversation today ends with “I love you, stay prayed up.” I love you ma. My grandmother Pearl Miller, for constantly telling me to always be ready. I think she would be very proud of me if she saw what I am doing today. RIP grandma, I love you.
Tiffany Scales also known as The Wordmatician, The Arts Advocate and Merry Us Tiffany. She pushes me and encourages me like no other. I am very blessed to have this lady in my corner and it’s an honor to call her friend. She’s one of the reasons I started writing and recording again. Dende KamiSama for being a great talent for producing my amazing tracks. That guy is going places! The T.R.U.T.H. Project HTX founder Kevin Anderson for taking a chance on me when he heard me for the first time at HeART and Soul. Thanks Kevin! LOC Inc founder Kendra Walker for just being a great leader and all-around genuine person. You’re the best Kendra. The rest of my family and friend here in Texas back home in New Orleans and everywhere else. They are the real M.V.M. (Most Valuable Motivators). I can’t wait to release my project to make all everyone proud.
