Today we’d like to introduce you to Reese Berry.
Reese, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started back in my hometown, Milwaukee, WI. My friends, La’Cie & Mwanje, and I started our podcast called, “Young, Black & Opinionated” (YBO) back in 2016. There’s no specific reason as to why we started podcasting, it was one of those things that we continuously talk about and finally did. After a while, podcasting becomes a habit because you’re motivated and you gain consistent supporters. I started to learn more about audio and equipment, in addition to meeting more people and learning that there’s a growing podcast community. Whenever we would have guests on YBO, I began to pay attention to the fact that most people like to talk… a lot… and about themselves. This gave me the idea to start another podcast called, “The Fruition Series” back in November of 2017. Since moving to Houston earlier this year, I’ve been working to stay consistent with this project. Whenever I release new episodes, people always reach out to me wanting to narrate their own episode, which keeps me motivated.
“The Fruition Series” is a first-person narrative that takes a look into the lives of people that are actively working towards making their dreams and goals come to ”Fruition”. Each episode blends compelling storytelling and inspiration that will keep listeners engaged and wanting to know more. One thing that sets this project apart from most is that each episode is solely about the person narrating it. It gives listeners insight on who the person is, where they come from, etc. It’s almost as if the narrator is talking to him or herself, but knowing that they’ll eventually have a crowd or group that they’ll be presenting in front of. I think regular interviews are great, but only hearing one person’s voice puts the focus on the narrator, what they’re saying, and with no interruptions. We’re all different, yet we’re all connected in some way. It makes me proud when I receive feedback from listeners about how they were able to relate to or learn from someone that they don’t know in such a creative way. We tend to give people the respect or want to say we, “know somebody” when they’re somebody to everybody. How about we give people the respect and acknowledgment when we see them doing something great. Each episode is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, SoundCloud & Google Play.
