Today we’d like to introduce you to Regina Nguyen.
Regina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was in middle school when I needed to see an optometrist for my first pair of glasses. My parents took me to see my cousin, who is an optometrist and after my experience with her, I knew that was the profession I wanted to pursue. She had a fulfilling career that had a positive impact on the community and was able to maintain her family/social life – it was everything I knew that I wanted for my own future. Once I made that decision to pursue optometry, I began to focus my education on health and science. In optometry school, I was selected to participate in an internship with a leading refractive surgeon and one of the best practices in Austin, TX. Now here I am today, with my own private practice, serving the Houston community.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Opening a small business has presented many challenges and has been a tough learning experience. I believe that all small business owners can agree; it is never a smooth process overall. I have been fortunate and had the opportunity to work for a local ophthalmologist who chose me to help him take care of his patients. In 2018, I took full ownership of the practice and renamed it Parkway Vision. Patient care comes naturally to me and is the most rewarding part of running my own practice. Learning to balance work and family is one of my ongoing challenges. I am a mom of an energetic toddler and at times, I struggle with not being home to watch him grow but with the everlasting support of my husband, family and friends, I am able to live my dream of being a doctor and private practice owner.

I am a doctor first, business owner second and I try to give my patients what they need and be transparent. Honesty is so very important to me and it is the foundation in the relationship I build with the community.
Parkway Vision is located off of Westheimer Road, in close proximity to the Energy Corridor, Westchase, Alief, Mission Bend, and Memorial. We specialize in eye care for the entire family and pride ourselves in providing affordable, quality care with the most upfront pricing. I believe what sets us apart from others is our large selection of frames and lenses – it allows us to cater to all budgets. I also LOVE fitting patients of all ages with contact lenses. I have fit patients as young as six years old all the way to 75 years old!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I remember always being a very curious kid, especially when it came to the human body. I was always asking why or how things happen (i.e. why do we burp or how do we get sick). This was before you could google or ask Alexa – so you could imagine how fun this was for my parents. I find the human body and the way it works to be fascinating!
