Hi Renata, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
SHINE Photography began as a way to merge my passion for photography with my business expertise. Most of my career was spent in large corporations, but after having two kids, I decided to step back from the corporate world. With an active mind that craved a new challenge, I turned to photography—a hobby that quickly became a pursuit of mastery through multiple classes and learning the basics. In time, I was freelancing for a blog in New Zealand, creating recipes and photographing them. Conversations with friends and family led me to real estate photography, and it instantly resonated with me; I connected with spaces and realized I had found my calling.
Before long, my personal schedule as a real estate photographer was booked solid, and I needed support. The demand kept growing, and today we are a team of four. Since 2020, SHINE has doubled in size each year, thanks to systems we’ve implemented to automate and streamline processes—making things smoother for both our team and our clients. We have a full-time office manager overseeing operations, a team lead, and a specialist videographer. I still shoot, primarily focusing on high-end listings and architecture & design, while also managing business development, contracts, and overall operations.
It’s a rewarding career, and I love constantly meeting new people, discovering new places, and creating something unique every day. My hope is that SHINE continues to grow and becomes a place where people love to work for—and love to work with
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! Managing a team has been the most challenging aspect of running the business for me. There were moments when I considered stepping back and returning to being a solo photographer. In early 2025, one of my photographers decided to pursue a different career, so I had to find a replacement. The process of finding the right person was lengthy and, unfortunately, led to losing some clients along the way. It was especially difficult to see clients move on after investing so much effort in building those relationships, as partnerships are a core part of this industry.
Despite these setbacks, I learned valuable lessons about resilience and leadership. The experience motivated me to develop a more effective selection process for hiring team members, ensuring that similar challenges are less likely to arise in the future. This journey has strengthened my commitment to both my team and our clients, reinforcing the importance of perseverance and continuous improvement in the business.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
This is such a great question, and I see tremendous opportunities ahead for SHINE Photography over the next few years. I envision our company becoming a true trendsetter in the community, consistently introducing innovative ideas and redefining industry standards. My plans include expanding our back-office team to deliver an even smoother and more professional experience for our clients. Additionally, I aim to launch a dedicated app to make our services more accessible and convenient for our clients on the go. We will increasingly integrate AI-powered tools to boost efficiency, accuracy, and speed in our workflow. In 2026, our goal is to firmly establish SHINE Photography in the Houston market as a leading competitor, recognized for our proven quality and exceptional customer service.
