Today we’d like to introduce you to Rene Sorola.
Rene, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Del Rio, TX. I come from a pretty humble background, but I was one of the lucky ones because I had an amazing upbringing from my Mom and Dad. I went on to graduate from A&M and took a corporate job, here in Houston, that I absolutely hated.
So when a buddy approached me with a real estate investment opportunity, I jumped on it! Long story short, we ended up making a profit of 60K, which we split between the two of us, and I was hooked!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Running your own business is never a smooth road. I would say the two biggest struggles I’ve faced have been finding the right talent, and the time I’ve had to sacrifice with my family.
My biggest priority is being a good husband and father, sometimes that has conflicted with the responsibility I have to my company. But if you can manage to stack your team with talent, then your time is suddenly leveraged and you’re able to be more present in your personal life. The two struggles have gone hand in hand.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rene Sorola Properties at Keller Williams Metropolitan story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a residential real estate company, and we specialize in making what can be a very stressful process, a seamless one. We’ve been consistently ranked within the Top 25 Real Estate teams with Houston Business Journal since 2010.
I’m extremely proud of that record in and of itself, but what that really means to our clients is that we have a proven track record of delivering results. The successes we’ve experienced as a company enabled us to establish the Sorola Foundation, which benefits underprivileged children in need. It’s an honor to serve our clients and our community and make an impact on peoples lives.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I was very lucky to have two loving parents that gave me the kind of guidance I needed to become successful. I was lucky to have met a woman who supports me and can hold things down at home while I run our business. I’ve been lucky to have opportunities, but that’s where it ends, as far as luck being a factor.
Without hard work and preparation, you can have all the luck in the world, all the support and all the opportunity in the world, but it’s pointless. I know people much more successful than I who weren’t as lucky as me growing up, who didn’t have the opportunities I had, but they made it on grit alone. They made their own luck.
