Hi Reshma, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for art began during my school years, where I actively participated in interschool and district level painting competitions. Painting and crafting like crocheting,jewelry beading sewing, embroidery played a significant role in shaping my creativity and artistic foundation from an early age. Recently, I also had the honor of participating as an artist at the Global Encounter Festival 2025 in Dubai, an experience that further enriched my artistic journey.
Today, I am a Houston-based henna artist specializing in bridal henna, modern fusion styles, and customized designs for weddings and special occasions. My goal is to create elegant and meaningful designs that beautifully reflect each client’s individuality.
Interestingly, my professional journey into henna began unexpectedly. A bride who knew me through my painting background asked me to create her bridal henna. Although I was nervous, I accepted the opportunity. The overwhelming appreciation her henna received led to referrals, and what started as a single experience soon grew into a passion-driven career. I will always be grateful to her for believing in my talent before I fully believed in it myself.
Today, henna is much more than an art form to me. I love being part of life’s special moments whether it’s weddings, Eid celebrations, birthdays,corporate events or cultural events. Every design I create tells a story, and I feel honored to bring beauty, tradition, and joy to each celebration through my work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Like many artists, I faced a lot of self-doubt in the beginning and never imagined turning my art into a professional career. One of the biggest challenges was having the confidence to put my work out there and trust my own talent.
The early phase was also difficult because of intense competition and pricing pressures in the industry. Many people see henna as something simple and often compare professional artists with beginners, without realizing the amount of skill, patience, creativity, and years of practice required to create detailed, high quality designs.
Building a loyal client base took time, consistency, and patience. Balancing creativity, family responsibilities, and the physical demands of detailed henna work during busy wedding seasons was sometimes overwhelming. Since English is not my first language, communication in professional settings was also challenging at times.
However, these experiences taught me to stay confident in my work and focus on quality rather than comparison. Over time, I learned that clients who truly value artistry and professionalism recognize the difference. Every challenge helped me grow stronger, more resilient, and more passionate about my work and the connections I build through it.

Creativity has always been a huge part of who I am, and henna became a beautiful way for me to turn that passion into something meaningful. I specialize in modern and traditional fusion designs, party henna, bridal henna, and customized artwork for special occasions. I love creating designs that feel elegant, detailed, and unique to each client rather than repeating the same patterns on everyone.
I am especially known for my clean linework, detailed bridal designs, and the personal care I put into every appointment. Before starting henna professionally, I was deeply involved in painting and art, which helped shape my creativity and attention to detail. That artistic background allows me to approach henna differently and create designs that feel more personalized and artistic.
What I am most proud of is building my journey through genuine client trust and word-of-mouth support. Many opportunities came from clients recommending my work to others, and that support means everything to me. What truly sets me apart is the connection I build with people and my dedication to making every client feel comfortable, confident, and excited about their henna experience.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to trust my talent and not underestimate myself. In the beginning, I never imagined that my art could become something professional. Sometimes other people can see your potential before you do, and my journey taught me the importance of believing in yourself and taking opportunities even when you feel nervous or unsure.
I’ve also learned that genuine connections and kindness matter just as much as talent. Most of my growth happened through word of mouth, client trust, and people supporting my work. Every experience has taught me to stay patient, keep improving, and appreciate every person who has been part of my journey.
