Today we’d like to introduce you to Reyna Guidotti and Norma Maples.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m from Mexico I graduated from UNAM I’m a dentist. I come 30 years ago I didn’t think it made my life here but that was that I did, at the beginning, I made different jobs I was babysitting, clean houses, take care of elderly people, etc. One day one friend ask me if I want to work in a bakery and I toll her I don’t know to do this job she said don’t worry you can learn. I began to work in a place call Cakes by Jackie, by the way, was in the same location that our business, I began cleaning, baking, taking care of the customers one day the girls that made the cakes left the place and I was the only person to work the owners toll me that I have to made the cakes, I didn’t know how but the adventure began. I was doing everything for them for almost 8 years until May of 2005. I didn’t work like for 3 months one day we see that Cakes by Jackie closed the business and we rent the same space and this year will be 13 years on our adventure call Tiara Cakes. I never imagine in my life to do this my dream has been a doctor I always was too bad in the art. But day by day I discover this amazing world. Was not easy hard work, long hours working but every day a felt happy because I enjoy my job
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
sometimes was smooth sometimes not. Our biggest problem is that we can’t made the next steep.
Tiara Cakes – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We made cakes, cookies ,desserts, and more we are so proud because will be 13 years open, in Houston small business is not easy.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Make me proud myself when I see a customer happy or they tell me that our cakes are the best, or when a future customer come and said that taste our cake in a party’s friend or relative and is the best cake that ate and for that reason is in our place.
