Meet Rhashida Rubio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhashida Rubio.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I could fondly remember as a young child. I would be asked by my parents to make the cake for Christmas or special occasion. Using only a simple boxed mix and canned frosting, I would create and etch designs in the frosting using a fork. Fast forward several years later, I studied art and design in college in which I gained skills and learned the art of composition. Several years after that around 2018, I decided to take a cake decorating class at a local craft store to give myself a creative outlet and try something fun. It was then my love of cake decorating truly cultivated. In 2012, The Artsy Cake was born. I have been extremely fortunate to be able to create cakes and treats for many special occasions.

Please tell us about your art.
I absolutely love creating beautiful, unique, custom pieces of edible art for my customers. Each cake is lovingly created with the customer in mind. My goal is to always provide not only a beautiful work of art but a delicious work of art as well. With each cake, I make sure to begin with a positive attitude (no exceptions), so that the love and positivity continue throughout the entire process.
I also strive to provide an enjoyable, memorable experience for my customers from the ordering process to the delivery.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
My advice for artists is to stay true to who you are. Create what feels right to you. Learn as much as you can about your craft and don’t be afraid to try new techniques. Also, don’t let anyone make you feel like your art isn’t good enough. It is. It is uniquely you.
I wish I learned to follow my heart do what I knew was best for me, as opposed to what others “thought” was best for me.
