Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Aguilar.
Robert, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey has been built around serving people and building relationships.
I started my career in the electrical and construction industry, where I spent more than twenty years working on projects, solving problems, and learning the value of hard work, teamwork, and integrity. Over time, I transitioned into real estate, where I found another way to help people by guiding them through one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.
As I grew my real estate business, I began asking myself a simple question: What if real estate could be used as a way to give back to the community?
That question led me to create RESC (Real Estate Supporting Communities), a nonprofit organization focused on supporting local heroes, schools, students, and community initiatives. Through RESC, we’ve developed programs that give back to teachers, healthcare workers, first responders, law enforcement, veterans, active military members, and seniors through our Heroes Rewards Program. The program allows eligible heroes to receive money back when they buy or sell a home, while also helping support our mission of strengthening local communities.
Over the years, RESC has grown beyond real estate. We’ve partnered with schools throughout the Pasadena area and surrounding communities to recognize Students of the Month, celebrate students earning All A’s, host teacher appreciation events, and organize our RESC Ice Cream Delights to show appreciation to the educators and staff who make a difference every day.
Another initiative that has grown from this mission is Networking with Nuggets, a professional networking platform that brings together business owners, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. While many networking events focus solely on business, our goal is to build meaningful relationships, share knowledge, support one another, and create opportunities to give back to the community.
As RESC and Networking with Nuggets have grown, we’ve had the opportunity to create initiatives that bring people together while making a positive impact in our community. One of the highlights was hosting our first Networking with Nuggets Veterans Recognition Event at BMW of Clear Lake, where we brought together veterans, business owners, community leaders, and supporters to honor military service, recognize veteran-owned businesses, and provide grants to veterans for education and business development.
I’ve also been fortunate to be invited to speak at business organizations, schools, and community events about leadership, networking, entrepreneurship, and the importance of giving back. These opportunities have allowed me to share lessons from both my professional journey and the work we’re doing through RESC.
One of the most meaningful recognitions along the way was being named Community Partner of the Year by Miller Intermediate. Awards are never the goal, but knowing that our efforts to support students, teachers, and schools are making a difference is incredibly rewarding.
While I’m proud of what we’ve built through RESC and Networking with Nuggets, the real credit belongs to the many local business leaders, sponsors, community partners, and volunteers who have embraced the vision and continue to support our efforts. Their generosity and willingness to serve are what make these programs possible.
Looking back, I never imagined that a career in construction would lead me to real estate, and that real estate would eventually lead me to creating a nonprofit organization. Today, whether I’m helping a family buy a home, recognizing a student, supporting a teacher, honoring a veteran, or bringing local businesses together, my mission remains the same: to build relationships, serve others, and strengthen the communities we call home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I believe the challenges are what make the journey worthwhile.
Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve had to wear multiple hats over the years. I built my career in construction, transitioned into real estate, and eventually founded a nonprofit organization. Each step came with a learning curve, uncertainty, and the need to continually adapt.
One of the biggest challenges has been building something that didn’t exist before. When I created RESC, I had a vision of using real estate as a way to give back to local heroes, schools, and communities. While many people loved the idea, turning that vision into a reality required building relationships, earning trust, finding community partners, and creating programs that could make a lasting impact.
Another challenge has been balancing time. Between real estate, community events, nonprofit work, networking initiatives, and family responsibilities, there are never enough hours in the day. Many of the programs people see today were built one relationship, one conversation, and one event at a time.
Through RESC, we work alongside schools to support and enhance many of their existing programs. Whether it’s recognizing Students of the Month, celebrating students earning All A’s, rewarding perfect attendance, supporting teacher appreciation events, or hosting our RESC Ice Cream Delights, our goal is to encourage, recognize, and support the students, teachers, and staff who are making a difference every day.
I’ve also learned that not everyone will immediately understand your vision. There were times when people questioned whether the programs would work or whether they could be sustained. Those experiences taught me patience, persistence, and the importance of building strong relationships and surrounding yourself with people who believe in the mission. Fortunately, we’ve been blessed with incredible business leaders, community partners, sponsors, and volunteers who have helped turn ideas into reality and continue to support the work we’re doing throughout the community.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about RESC Real Estate Supporting Communities?
RESC is actually pretty simple.
At its core, RESC stands for Real Estate Supporting Communities. We use real estate as a way to give back and support the people who serve our communities every day.
One of our signature programs is the RESC Heroes Rewards Program. Through the program, eligible heroes such as teachers, healthcare providers, first responders, law enforcement officers, military members, veterans, and seniors can receive money back when they buy or sell a home through our program. It’s not a government program, lender program, or grant. It’s simply our way of sharing a portion of the real estate commission to thank those who spend their lives serving others.
What makes RESC unique is that we’re focused on creating impact beyond the real estate transaction. While helping clients buy and sell homes is important, we also look for ways to support schools, students, educators, veterans, and local community initiatives.
Over the years, we’ve partnered with schools to recognize Students of the Month, celebrate students earning All A’s, provide teacher appreciation events, and host our RESC Ice Cream Delights for school staff. We’ve also created opportunities to bring business leaders and community members together through Networking with Nuggets, where relationships, education, and community involvement take center stage.
What I’m most proud of, is that RESC has shown how real estate can be more than buying and selling homes. It can also be a tool for supporting local heroes, strengthening schools, building relationships, and giving back to the communities we serve.
At the end of the day, we’re not just helping people buy or sell homes. We’re building relationships, supporting local heroes, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for others to get involved and make a difference.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If there’s one thing I’d like readers to take away from my story, it’s that you don’t have to start a nonprofit, own a business, or have a lot of money to make a difference in your community.
Some of the greatest impacts I’ve seen have come from simple acts of kindness, building relationships, and people choosing to help one another.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned throughout my career in construction, real estate, and community service is that success is rarely achieved alone. Every program, event, school partnership, veteran recognition, and community initiative we’ve been able to create through RESC has been possible because of the support of incredible business leaders, educators, volunteers, sponsors, and community members who chose to get involved.
I also want people to understand that opportunities are often found through relationships. Whether it’s buying a home, growing a business, finding a mentor, supporting a school, or helping a local hero, meaningful connections can create lasting change.
My hope is that RESC continues to inspire others to look for ways to serve, support, and strengthen the communities around them. We all have different talents, resources, and experiences to offer. When we work together, those small efforts can make a much bigger impact than we ever imagined.
And if you’re wondering where to start, start by getting involved. Support a local school, volunteer, attend a community event, mentor someone, or simply look for ways to help others. You may be surprised by how much of a difference one person can make.
