Meet Robert Doty of Cooli Booli in North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Doty.

Cooli Booli is an American Artist, Producer, Song Writer from Houston, TX. Born Robert P. Doty on July 17, in the deep south of Alexandria, Louisiana, Cooli Booli is the reinvented, alter alias to the established hip hop artist, CB aka Country Boy. Coming from a working class, single-parent household, music and performing has always been a way of life for this talented creator. He learned to play various instruments including, drums, various percussion instruments, piano and more from an early age in grade school eventually leading him to play in his high school’s drumline and concert band. CB wanted to play sports in school but his mother and doctor refused due to him battling and eventually having to undergo multiple major surgeries from a severe case of Ulcerative Colitis as a child. The disease almost took his life and was very painful/traumatic for many of his childhood years, so he naturally took to music as an escape. After beating all odds and graduated with honors among the top 10% of his class, CB knew a career in music was his calling and set out to make a name for himself in the industry. With dedication and determination he has overcome much adversity and many obstacles in life to become an emerging name in entertainment.

Over the years Cooli Booli has studied music abroad and has built an extensive catalog. He has opened and played numerous shows with many high profile artists around Texas and the Nation even bringing him to Canada. 2015 was the turning point for CB’s career. After releasing several indie projects and many singles, including the Houston “Texans Win Anthem”, “The Flood” Mixtape in 2015 attracted over 250k online streams within the first two weeks of release which gained him national radio play, performance opportunities, and more. Since then he has been capturing the attention of many DJ’s, Indie Labels, Producers, and other Celebrities through social media and his travels. Then 2016 was a very pivotal year for CB. Not only was he evolving as an artist he was also beginning to learn and grow as a philanthropist. Eventually signing with new management, CB began working on new cross-over records with Diamond Certified & Multi-Platinum producer Ronnie King, and special projects with producer Danny Saber in which CB really began to blossom into something special. His journey combined with these new endeavors would lead to the birth of Cooli Booli. As a growing creator, CB was striving for more. He wanted to stand out from the crowd and stand for something positive in the culture. Armed with a new attitude, direction of sound and energy, CB knew a new brand name was the missing link to complete his evolution. Wanting something that would fit with the CB (Country Boy) brand that he worked so hard to establish, CB thought about many names over a very frustrating couple of weeks in the spring of 2017. Then one day after waking from a nap, he said “I got it”. “I relaxed, prayed on it, and it came to me in a dream”, the name “Cooli Booli” in which Booli in Kabalarian philosophy means exactly what his new direction stood for; Positive energy, justice, appreciation of music and the arts, fun and laughter, and a true leader. And well Cooli is CB all day as he is naturally charming with a very cool and easy going personality.

Now, Cooli Booli is looking to take his talents, experience, and passion for music to the top! Fun, funky, full of energy, innovative, are just a few ways to describe his new approach he is bringing to entertainment. His mission is to get back to having fun with music. He wants to bridge age and race gaps for all walks of life with his new universal sound and positive movement. CB is the true definition of an artist and one who can adapt to any environment. Expect great things from this innovator as he continues to grow his brand into a household name.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Cooli has faced many challenges and adversity over the years including tension within his family due to lifestyle choices and career path, illness as a child, and more. At the age of 5, he was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. He had a very extreme case of this painful disease fighting it for years with numerous medications, and other treatments. When he was 11 the disease was at it’s worst stage, CB had to undergo multiple surgeries to remove the diseased portions of his intestines and even a heart surgery because of an overdose of steroids in the midst of battling the disease but would go on to make a full recovery. That’s when CB got back to being a kid but would soon find himself going to the extreme becoming very rebellious due to prior hard years of being sick and cooped up. He started getting into trouble and found himself on the wrong side of the law on several occasions as a teen.

After graduating high school CB left home to pursue his dreams and leave behind family differences. It wasn’t long after leaving home as a teen, Cooli fell into hard financial times but he did not want to go back home by any means so he set out to make money anyway he could. He found himself deep in a street life which almost cost him his life. In 2007, one of his crew members set him up. He was ran over and almost killed by an SUV being drug over 333 feet on the street and left for dead. Luckily local pedestrians found CB and he was Life Flighted to the downtown trauma center. CB suffered 3rd degree burns from road rash on over 60% of his body and had to have several blood transfusions but was very lucky to be alive. That’s when CB reached a new outlook on life. He felt he was alive for a reason and set out to make a positive difference and use his journey as motivation to fuel his passion for music and story to help others. CB still faces adversity as an artist in the southern hip hop, funk/soul industry but strives to be a trusted brand not matter what.
