Meet Robert Gazdek and Rick Cantu of R & R CraftHouse Grill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Gazdek and Rick Cantu.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We both worked in the restaurant business most of our lives holding every position from dishwasher to District Manager. After working for the same company for over 17 years. The company was sold and we decided to take the leap into our own restaurant after discussing it with our wives. After much research, we found our current location. It was a tavern that went out of business a year prior to us opening.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It took about 5 months to find the location and then found out there were some liens on it, so it took some time before we can do any changes to the building. The neighborhood friends were always stopping in and taking a peek to see what we were doing and that gave us a great feeling.

We reduced the beer taps from 28 to 10 so we can get some more room in the cooler for fresh food.

Our biggest problem was trying to create some more prep room. It’s a very tight kitchen and minimum amount of prep space especially for serving fresh food prepared on a daily basis.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with R & R CraftHouse Grill – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We believe fresh is best. We hand cut our french fries. We make our own pickles, BBQ sauce, dressings, chili, soup, onion ring batter, roast pork and much more every day. Our 8 oz. burger blend is Short rib, chuck, and brisket which creates an awesome flavor profile. We also have Craft burgers and a build your own burger selection.

Our menu has a good variety of choices from tacos to grilled salmon. Craft beer on tap and a good selection of bottle and can craft beers. Craft soda’s that are from Spring TX. Our Hand battered onion rings and Crafthouse balls seem to be a customer favorite.

Being that we are in the Cypress area of Houston we found some pictures of the area and put them all around the restaurant and also as our bar top. We found the customers really enjoy looking at them and creates a great local atmosphere.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Being that we are still new we just want to make sure that we are able to tweak our menu to the neighborhood landscape. We are planning to add specials to the menu as we progress through the seasons.
