Meet Robert Landau

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Landau.

Robert, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve gotten to where I am today by understanding that learning the tough lessons that life teaches us is a big part of what life is all about. I was the kid who was bullied and teased from elementary through junior high school.

Not knowing the alphabet by third grade, the school psychologist kept telling my parents that there were major issues with me. They were right. Among many other issues, you couldn’t get me to speak in front of two people. So what did I do with that? Choosing to turn a negative into a positive, I decided to become an Actor in New York City and attended New York City’s most avant-garde acting school.

Needless to say, I came out of the shell pretty fast. Not wishing to become an Actor, after all, I had no idea what my next step would be. Every morning I’d jog along New York City’s East River, feeling what it would feel like being a Cruise Director on a cruise ship. It was a natural fit for me because I’d be able to use my acting training, be myself and visit places that few people had ever heard of.

Three weeks after I started doing that vision exercise, I got a phone call, totally out of the blue, to be a Socializer on a cruise ship. I had no idea what a Socializer was. For three weeks I had to ballroom dance with over 300 single ladies every night without fail between the hours of 6:00 pm and 2:00am… and I had no idea how to dance!

Three weeks became a season, and the next season I was asked back as an Assistant Cruise Director, which I did for three years. I eventually became a Cruise Director for the next seven years, visiting 300 ports of call on close to 400 cruises. It was the greatest gift I could have ever given myself.

The amazing life lessons I learned from my travels around the world are what I speak about in my current role as a National Motivational Speaker. My mission is to help people remember things about themselves that they think they’ve forgotten. Once they’re re-empowered, they’re able to do anything they choose to set their sites on.

I was my own worst enemy. I’ve learned that how we choose to talk to ourselves, within ourselves, makes a huge difference in how things happen outside of ourselves. I wasn’t my own best friend, I was my own worst enemy. I was forced to realize that I wasn’t a victim of life’s circumstances, but rather a willing co-creator.

-I was painfully afraid of my own shadow and extremely shy. I took the steps to overcome that.

-I was afraid to take a stand and rise to the occasion. My acting training and years at sea taught me to speak up, be proud and not be afraid to use my own voice to ‘lift’ situations and people.

-I had no understanding that life is a rare gift that we need to cherish and appreciate each and every day. It took two vicious near-death storms at sea when I was a Cruise Director that taught me how wonderful it is to be alive and what to do when major, emotional issues seem to be on your doorstep.

-I didn’t understand that instead of fearing my tomorrows, I could have a hand in creating them. Every day I set my intention for my future. It’s one of my main messages as a Motivational Speaker, and the process is easier to do than you think. Your mind is a very powerful thing that can work in your favor, if you know how to use it… rather than constantly allowing your mind to use you.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m a National Motivational Speaker and Certified Life Coach. I speak on topics that are pertinent in today’s crazy world we live in. Stress Management, Training the Mind, How to Be Happy at Work, Effective Goal Realization, How to Deal With Difficult People, Extreme Customer Service and Supreme Self Esteem are just some of the topics that I speak on or help individuals with one-on-one.

What sets me apart is my delivery. I think it’s important to make fun a part of everything I do. It’s a great way to get any message across. Fun is a part of how I deliver my message, and it’s a part of my mission.

I’m also known for wearing crazy jackets and crazy socks. Why not? We’re only here for two minutes, why not have a blast and leave people with something they can take into their lives that helps them create positive change. We need more of that today, no?

I’m most proud of being able to ‘lift’ others, bring a smile to their faces and have them understand that they have the power to get where they want to get to in their lives. There’s no greater feeling than to see empowered people.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Not only presenting the facts but showing others how to create positive change in their lives. What’s the good of presenting something worthwhile and meaningful to my audiences if they’re not going to take some of those tools and use them in their lives long after the experience they had with me is over? It’s not rocket science. It’s easy, and the results are life-changing.
