Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Wiseman.
Robert, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
From a very young age, I was always really good at solving puzzles and figuring out how to put things together. I love the challenge that comes from working through the ups and downs of a project and the satisfaction of being able to take it through to completion. This is one of the main reasons I enjoy working in real estate development. In 2004 I began my career in the mortgage industry. When the mortgage crash happened, I chose to change courses in my career and obtain my real estate license in order to assist people with short sales and foreclosures. A few years later, I obtained my real estate broker license and opened up my own brokerage, Wiseman Properties.
At this time, I had an idea to take an old bungalow style home, move it onto an empty lot we had purchased in the Brookesmith area, renovate it and sell it. We began the project and I enjoyed working on it every step of the way. Once the renovation was complete, the house looked great and we sold it. I wanted to continue renovating homes and did several more projects before deciding to begin building brand new homes from the ground up. This led to the creation of my residential construction company, Wiseman Homes. I began building new construction homes and did several custom home projects throughout the inner loop areas of Houston. I love working through the construction process and taking the home design from a drawing on paper to a structure that will provide a home for someone.
With the help of my wife, Melyssa Wiseman and a great team of talented experts, we have been able to build a reputable company that is known for constructing quality homes which we are very proud of. We are currently building new homes in the Independence Heights area and have expanded into building multi-family residences as well. I currently have several student housing duplex projects underway near the University of Houston and Texas Southern University. My dream is to grow Wiseman Homes into a business that we can pass down to our children when they are ready to take over. I wake up each day feeling thankful and fortunate to be able to work on a business that I am passionate about and am very excited for the future!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. Building or renovating a house comes with its own set of challenges and unexpected delays can occur in your plan. You are also working with different people that have different personalities and you have to be able to communicate effectively with each of them in order to keep the project moving forward. As we all know, the weather here in Houston can be a serious challenge at times and can create major setbacks in your project depending on what phase of the construction you are currently on. I personally have also had to find a good balance with my time in order to maintain the level of energy I need each day to keep track of all the projects I have going on at any given time.

What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck. With hard work, planning and the Grace of God, I have been able to continue moving forward and growing my business through all of the challenges I have faced. I have learned from my experiences throughout the years and use that knowledge to become a better husband, father, business owner and just all-around person. I am very intentional about the steps I take in my business as well as my personal life. I prioritize my time and always give 100 percent effort into everything I set out to do. One of the main reasons I believe I have been able to succeed is because I take time to pray and spend time with God before I move forward with any decisions I make. My faith is what gives me clarity and the confidence to take the next step.
