Today we’d like to introduce you to Rochelle Tyler.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rochelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Being a full-time Middle School teacher, wife and mother of two I needed an outlet. I have always loved to bake and I would bake late at night for my family who enjoyed the treats. With motivation from my husband, I decided that I wanted to have an old school bakery with real baked goods from danishes to cinnamon rolls. In 2017, I started vending at the Buy Black Marketplace located at the Shrine of the Black Madonna on Saturdays. I loved introducing my baked goods to others but the drive was a lot with two little ones with me. I started researching Farmers Markets in my area and that’s when I started working with Farmers Market Partners in Lake Olympia. As they grew so did I. My family transitioned to more of a plant-based lifestyle so my bakery changed too. Last year, I became known as the bakery that focused on dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, sugar-free and low carb baked goods at the Farmers Markets in Sugarland and Pearland areas. Finding my niche was amazing and I am continuing to grow as a vendor and as a business owner. This year I have learned so much about consistency and really working on my craft and not being afraid to do it all.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is easier to give up than to continue to put the hard work in to grow a business. Working full time as a teacher, it has always been a struggle in giving my weekends to Farmers Markets. I would always stop going to the markets during May and August and take weekends off but the inconsistency really hurt my business. Not knowing the business just learning as I go and not give up.
Princess Treats Bakery – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Princess Treats Bakery specializes in baked goods for people that live a different lifestyle. Baked goods that are egg-free, dairy-free and gluten-free options. I like that I have a presence at the Farmers Market available for people that thought they could not enjoy donuts, cakes, cookies or cinnamon rolls but now they can.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Selling out at the Rice Vegan Fest and being able to create birthday cakes. I’m excited for this year coming with more special occasion cakes.
