Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Butler II.
Rodney, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Started off as a little helper for my dad. My dad started a DJ Company called Mixsounds in 1987. I’m now currently run the company now as it’s CEO. As a helper I was a young kid and I learned a lot. I learned how a DJ operates and conducts oneself. Time goes by and I’m in college. I do a favor playing music for an organization throwing a small event. Next day I’m getting calls to be booked Djing many other events. I borrowed my dad’s DJ equipment and was the DJ for an event almost every week. I DJ’s parties throughout and was able to get by with paying my bills with the money I made. I graduated college and I feel like there’s more to Djing and possibly seeing my way to a career. I decide to intern for an events and wedding company. It was called Fervent Designs. They allowed me to work and learn how to book and consult with clients on professional events. I now am the lead DJ for Fervent Designs. We do luxury, destination, and small weddings. This past year I have rebranded Mixsounds. I plan to take Mixsounds to unimaginative places. I am now currently working with the A Team music group. We have big things upcoming regardless of 2020. I looked for to working with our upcoming artist Mosa.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it hasn’t been an easy path. A lot of hard work goes into everything I provide. There are plenty of great Dj’s in the Houston area. The challenge is trying to stand out and continue to prove why one should hire me for their event.
Please tell us about the company.
Well my company is named Mixsounds. Started in 1987 by my father Rodney Butler. We DJ all types of parties. I am mostly proud of the diversity. We have endless amounts of music and knowledge to be a part of tons of parties. Flexibility is a must. Keeping our clients satisfied and engaged is our priority.
Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
I love Houston and surround area. There are so many cultures. The area is wide and vast. You could be having a beach party one day and trail ride party near a barn the next. This city has plenty of amazing places to host events. I can’t think of a bad thing to say.
