Meet Rodney Rice of F45 Training Arts District Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Rice.

Rodney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve worked in the energy industry for 25 years but have always enjoyed fitness and the friendships that come with it. I currently work for a rather large Australian company and that is how I was introduced to F45. Work colleagues would visit Houston and rave about the F45 workouts and pushed me to give it a try. I was active in crossfit and wasn’t really looking for a new workout routine, but after one class, I was hooked and wanted to bring it to my neighborhood (Arts District/Woodland Heights). The workouts are great; they combine the best of both worlds, cardio and strength/resistance. Also, it’s an incredibly inclusive environment and all fitness levels are welcome.

Lastly, about me, I absolutely love living in the inner loop of Houston. Diverse and vibrant and always so much to do!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Coming from a corporate background and never owning a small business, I would say it has been a very educational road. Standing up a business is tough work, but if you are passionate about the product and surround yourself with great people, the effort will pay off. I knew very little about commercial real estate, construction, permitting, payroll….the list goes on, but I persevered and here we are today with a fantastic studio in a great community with the best coaches/trainers.

Please tell us about F45 Training Arts District Houston.
What is F45? The F stands for functional training, a mix of circuit and HIIT style workouts geared towards everyday movement. 45 minutes is the total amount of time for sweat-dripping, heart-pumping fun! These high-intensity workouts are fast, fun, and results-driven.

Our specialty is providing HIIT style workouts that never repeat, plus great, engaged coaching. The programming is exceptional and a week at F45 consists of cardio (MWF), strength/resistance (TThSu) and a hybrid class (Sat).

INNOVATION. Our functional training classes continually evolve so virtually no two workouts are ever the same!

MOTIVATION. The motivation and encouragement in a group training facility create a pulsing, upbeat environment where goals are met and exceeded.

RESULTS. When it comes to weight management, good nutrition is vital. Through the F45 Challenge, we give all members access to their own free personal nutrition program to achieve health objectives with daily meal plans, tracking, and community support. Our next challenge starts in February 2020.

I’m most proud of our coaching staff. We worked incredibly hard to hire experienced, certified trainers that understand the importance of community and helping our clients meet their fitness goals.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Good question. We’ve learned a lot standing up this F45 in the Arts District; we love our location, our coaching staff is phenomenal and the community we are building is something special. The only thing I can think of that I would change would be to build in time to the project for construction and permitting delays.
