Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger Janik.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Roger. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After working in the corporate world as a professional web designer and a multi-media specialist, I began my own business. I wanted a company based on solid principles, good work ethics, and superior customer service. So, in January 2005, Fair Marketing, Inc. was officially launched as primarily a web and print design company. With the luck of fate, the direction began to shift after several clients expressed an interest in search engine optimization (upSEARCH™ for SEO).
Thereafter, Fair Marketing, Inc. focused on SEO and also added to services such as pay-per-click advertising, social media marketing as well as email marketing. After over a decade of success with Fair Marketing, I’ve transformed into a serial entrepreneur. I’m currently an investor and managing partner in some of the world’s most recognize-able e-commerce brands such as Fountains.com, BeefJerky.com and RankHacker.com.
In addition, I recently acquired 7 food companies and with 2 other partners. Our main holding company is called Celebrate Brands. Celebrate mainly produces low-carb and healthy food snacks. Some of our product can be found at Kroger, HEB and Whole Foods.
I’m also on the board of the Houston Better Business Bureau as well, I’m one of the founders of a business plan competition specifically for Veterans hosted by Rice U called the Vet Biz Battle (www.vetbizbattle.com) and I also have a charitable foundation called The Search For Good Foundation (www.searchforgood.ngo).
In addition to marketing, fountains, and food, I’ve recently become fully immersed into the world of blockchain technology and am building a decentralized application that will be built on the blockchain. Our first product launch is called Cynch and you can find more information at Cynch.co. All of my business partners are also local, Houston entrepreneurs.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The first 10 years were actually pretty smooth and I experienced tremendous growth and even made the INC 5000 list. But over the past 2-3 years, business has not grown as much as it previously did because I am now invested in 13 companies.
Having a very diverse portfolio is great but it does make it very difficult to stay focused on items that need the most attention and ultimately some balls can get dropped because of this. So I would say my biggest challenge is properly balancing my time to work on the highest priorities within each one of my companies.
Please tell us about Fair Marketing.
In the marketing arena for my company Fair Marketing, we set ourselves apart from the competition by being true innovators. For example, I spent over 6 years developing an online software solution for SEO Automation. The tool can be found at RankHacker.com and it provides competitive intelligence that no other tool can provide and we use this data to build custom campaigns for our clients with a rock-solid strategy to gain results.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
For Fair Marketing I would not have changed a thing as it has had tremendous success and growth. With some of my newer ventures, I would probably have looked for some institutional investors to help with the growing pains of a startup in an effort to develop, deploy and market the product or service faster. It’s very tough to get a startup off the ground without enough ‘fuel’ to launch it.
