Meet Romulo Reis Pereira of Rilion Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy in Westchase

Today we’d like to introduce you to Romulo Reis Pereira.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Romulo. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a 4th Degree Black Belt and I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Master Rilion Gracie in 1992. Master Rilion Gracie is the youngest male son of the Grand Master Carlos Gracie Sr. (the founder of Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the creator of MMA).

At that time, around 25 years ago, I was part of the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team in south Brazil (Florianópolis/SC) and, since then, I dedicated my life to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, receiving my Black Belt in 2000.

With more than 25 years of teaching experience, I coached many champions in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and I ministered several seminars in Brazil, USA, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ireland and Japan. Also graduated 25 Black Belts during my career so far, and won several national and international titles such as 3-times South Brazilian Champion, 2-times Pan-American Champion, 1-time South American Champion and 2-times Champion in Japan.

I owned a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Brazil for 13 years teaching kids & adults and also competing before I moved to the US in 2010, when I was assigned a Professor at Rilion Gracie Academy in Miami, FL. After a few years, I was given the challenge to run the Houston, TX location for Master Rilion Gracie and moved to the city in 2013. While in the Houston Area, I also participated in the opening of the Missouri City, TX location as a partner and Lead Professor in 2015 and continues to achieve great success in the area.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The toughest time was when I moved to USA. Learn a new language, culture and teach all my knowledge at the same time was not so easy.

Rilion Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Rilion Gracie Academy – Houston, TX is a premier academy for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It is the home of authentic Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Founded by Rilion’s father, Carlos Gracie Sr., in the 1920’s, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has been proven to be the most effective form of self defense ever developed. I lead and manage the academy.

Master Rilion Gracie is widely recognized as one of the best Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world. He is the only member of the famous Gracie family teaching in Florida and Texas.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When I got my Black belt after 8 years of dedication on the sport.
