Today we’d like to introduce you to Rotary House The Woodlands Joel Kerschenbaum.
Hi Rotary House the Woodlands, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Rotary House the Woodland is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit that was started by the Woodlands Rotary Club in 2017. All the information that would be relevant can be found on the Rotary House website:
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Rotary Club of the Woodlands has provided almost all of our financial and volunteer resources. They have made it possible for Rotary House the Woodlands to be able to overcome many of the obstacles that most not-for-profits encounter and have allowed us to be able to carry out our mission as successfully as we have.
We are continually searching for better ways to help support our clients during their treatment and recovery.
Like most nonprofits, finding short-term and long-term funding for the services Rotary House the Woodlands provides is an ongoing challenge.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I obtained my medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1974 and practiced medicine in Canada until moving to the Woodlands in 1980, where I practiced Family Medicine until my retirement in October 2018.
I was the founder of the Interfaith Community Clinic (originally named South County Community Clinic), a not-for-profit clinic formed in 1996, to provide free dental, medical and social services to the working poor of Montgomery and Harris counties and have served on its board of directors and as its medical director.
Served on the Interfaith of the Woodlands – Board of Directors from January 2012 to July 2015
Served on Rotary House of the Woodlands – Board of Directors June 2019 to present and president from July 2024 until present.
I have been a Rotary Club member in Canada and have been a member of the Rotary Club of the Woodlands since 1983.
