Meet Ruben Salazar of Bug In The Box

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruben Salazar.

Ruben, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my journey to Bug In The Box since I was a child, growing up my mother taught me about insects and how to preserve and pin insects and butterflies. I have always been fascinated with nature and animals and growing up I kinda had a zoo at home.

My father was more on the artistic side so I blended together what I had learned from my parents and Bug In The Box was born. My partner Tristan has helped me grow my business, he shares my passion for bugs, butterflies and nature. We love to share our knowledge and teach others about the diversity of insects in our world.

Has it been a smooth road?
We have been very fortunate to have a pretty smooth road with growing our business.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is Bug In The Box. We specialize in making preserved ethically sourced exotic butterflies and insects in shadow frames, boxes and furniture. We are most proud of sourcing all of our insects ethically from farms and sanctuaries around the world after they have passed away naturally.

And being able to preserve them in our art so that generations to come can appreciate them. What sets us apart is the quality and knowledge of all of the specimens that we provide for our customers and bug lovers.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is a great place for our business with its large and thriving art community. We love our city and it’s support for local businesses so I would say Houston is an amazing place for new businesses.
