Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruby Cloutier.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I studied Fashion Design in Houston, Texas and I am intrigued by all elements that bring together a design and/or style. After living in Houston for 6 years, my husband and I relocated to my hometown, Austin, Texas and after two years we moved to Montreal, Canada for a year and back to Texas. Once we moved back, I was approached by a realtor to do all of his home stagings and consultations. I had staged our house before we moved to Montreal and it sold before hitting MLS and for $20k over! In Montreal, I was asked if we could have our condo professionally photographed for a magazine.
So, at this point, I felt I was on to something. I accepted the realtor’s challenge and that’s when Vazzo was born. In just a short year, I was able to grow my clientele, all word of mouth. It was an amazing experience and I’ve been so busy! Since then, I have a solid client base, I have done the interior design for a restaurant, I was asked to stage a home for the 10th anniversary for the 2018 Modern Home Tours, I started helping clients decorate their homes and I now do photo shoot styling for luxury architects. It’s been an incredible first year and I feel very proud. I want to continue to grow my business, clientele and continue to learn as much as I can. I really felt that staging needed a new feel and vibe to it. Vazzo provides a fresh approach to a dated service industry. I’m happy that people have responded to what I do… style their homes.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish! Nothing in business comes easy if so, everyone would do it. My struggles have been managing everything on my own. I wear all the hats, especially in my first year of business. Keeping the business aspect organized, to keep the warehouse full of furniture organized for business development, to work out schedules with jobs. It’s all a learning process! A lot of trial and error.
Please tell us about Vazzo Spaces.
My business, Vazzo Spaces is a professional home staging, styling, and interior design Company. There are many aspects of my company: I stage homes so they sell faster and for more money. I provide full-service consultation to clients so they can prepare their home for sale. I help decorate homes and select furniture and accessories. I style luxury photo shoots. I provide interior design services for home flippers, builders, architects, and restaurants. I am most proud of the fact that I just start out staging homes and with a request from clients it turned into so much more! I believe what sets me apart from other stages is my laid back approach… yes, I am running a business but at the same time, I just love being around people. I feel my clients are comfortable with me and are able to be themselves. Also, the impeccable customer service that I learned from working 6 years as a fashion stylist in luxury retail.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I would have to say, playing sports. Doing what I love, being involved with a team, practicing so that I could be great at what I do. Those were great, great memories.
