Meet Summer Shaw, Stefanie Bright-Burnett and Brandy Fuentes of Rush Cycle – Med Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Shaw, Stefanie Bright-Burnett and Brandy Fuentes.

Our trio of owners consists of two sisters, Summer and Stefanie, and a long-time friend, Brandy.

Summer and Stefanie come from a background in fitness from our grandpa who owned a chain of Health Spas, now known as gyms, to our mom who owns a yoga studio in the Clear Lake area. Summer and Stefanie taught yoga for several years within their mom’s studio. Towards the end of Summer’s yoga teaching career, she began roller derby as an extra workout and a way to meet new women in her age group. Shortly after starting, she met Brandy who quickly joined her roller derby team. The roller derby stint only lasted a couple of years for both, as the reality of injury became a concern for both. After leaving the game of roller derby, the three got involved in miscellaneous forms of workouts from gyms, Camp Gladiator and Orange Theory. After trial and error of finding the perfect workout for them, they found Rush. But before they found Rush, the three found their passions through different branches of health and fitness. Summer opened a spa in the Clear Lake area down the street from her mom’s yoga studio, working as an Esthetician.

Then not long after opening, Brandy joined the team as a massage therapist. Three years after the opening of the spa, Stefanie also joined the team as the hairstylist. Ok back to Rush- one day, a mutual friend of the three posted on Facebook about a free spin class at Rush Cycle – League City, asking who wants to go with her. Stefanie got on board and went with her. She fell in love!! Quickly, she called Summer saying “That was so much fun! We could open one of these!” Summer was open to the idea but wanted to take a class first. Soon enough Summer took a class and was sold! She contacted Rush Corporate through their web form and began the approval process, in November of 2017. Their approval process took several months before getting the final sign off which occurred in Feb 2018. Then off to San Diego the trio went to sign and celebrate a new chapter in March 2018. Happily they made it through construction (almost unscathed haha) to their soft opening date of July 2019!

In the trio’s words, “Rush Cycle is not just another workout. Rush Cycle is a family. We build a community and ride to the beat of the music together as one team. We support each other in our highs and our lows. Losing weight and having the bikini body is not something you’ll ever hear mentioned inside of our walls. You will hear laughter, fun and of course, really great music with hard drops! This is what we got from Rush with our very first class and knew we had to spread this to as many people that we could touch. Has there been tears? Sure. Has there been blood? Maybe a little topped with some fear. But we haven’t given up and we won’t!”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but what in life ever is? We’ve been faced with challenges with construction, time away from our families and much more. We still are faced with challenges now, but the thing that keeps up going the most is our passion for what Rush provides to the community that surrounds us. We’re so happy to have joined the Rush Family that networks across the country.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rush Cycle – Med Center – what should we know?
We are an indoor cycling studio that moves to the beat of music, in a dark room, on a bike that goes nowhere! We are known to build a community that strives, not for perfection, but to show up each day as the best versions of ourselves! Rush Cycle provides an inclusive, not exclusive environment that welcomes people from all walks of life. Who knew working out could be so fun?

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our families, no doubt, have supported us every step of the way! We’ve had so so many long days and sleepless nights. We have also received a lot of support within the Rush Cycle family from all over the country.
