Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to Houston five years ago on a mission to build a different clientele base, one that respects peoples times, and really teach them about hair care. The start was very rough because Texas is so big. So I came up with a plan to narrow down the areas by looking for good traffic areas, people, cost of living, school and great communities. I always wanted to cater to all people. I started in Katy, nice area but people rather wear designer clothes than take care of their hair! Three years after running through my saving I decided to try my plan B Sugar Land. Then I put my own marketing plan into place. Each day I would leave home with 50-100 Business cards, I would walk the malls, banks, and schools (why?) That’s where most adults would be found! Find the Adult, adults tell a friend and so on. I would not come home with cards if so, I would go right back out until they were gone. Exactly one year later after being in Sugar Land, I was able to open my own salon 2018. So the key for me never stop praying and believing in yourself if I would’ve listened to people I wouldn’t be where I am today. Always be kind, market yourself, mingle, and go after what you want. I give all thanks to God for giving me the strength to step out on Faith. After all my research and working Sugar Land, Tx was the best fit for me!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, not a smooth road at all!
Choosing the right part of Texas to work? How to build the clientele I wanted? How to keep them coming back? Learning the right way to market. Learning to market myself. Getting involved with like-minded people. These were challenges for me because I was very bashful.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Salon 525 Hair Spa story. Tell us more about the business.
SALON 525 Hair Spa is a Full-Service Hair salon. We specialize in Healthy Hair Care, such as Hair Growth, Color Treated, Color Corrections, Scalp Treatments, Damaged Hair, Natural, Relaxed, Hair Extensions, and Mirco Beading. The most important skills that set me apart from other salons, is my excellent customer service skills on the day to day bases, time management a salon where you are not sitting and waiting all day, very knowledgeable on Hair Loss and Hair Growth, and we are always continuing our education.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe all things are lessons, some good and some are bad.
