Meet Samantha Dorisca of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Dorisca.

Samantha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey in media began at UT Austin, where I briefly worked as a photographer for two student publications: The Daily Texan and Orange Magazine. Post-college, I interned at Houstonia Magazine and later contributed to Girls’ Life Magazine.

But more than anything, I credit God for opening the door to this path. During uncertainty, I completed a 48-hour fast — not specifically for a job. A week later, I saw a tweet from AFROTECH™ Managing Editor Micah Davis looking for a new writer. I wasn’t the most qualified then, but I took a leap, applied, and landed the role.

The rest is history, and I wouldn’t be here without God. I truly believe it needed to play out this way because it also leaves no room for me to give myself credit for where I am.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve always embraced the mindset that you have to choose your hard. That perspective is one of the reasons you’ll rarely, if ever, hear me complain, because I prayed for the very position I’m in today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a journalist and photographer committed to storytelling that uplifts and empowers. As a journalist, I focus on tech and business to encourage wealth building within the Black community. As a photographer, I aim to capture and promote Black excellence through graduation portraits or headshots. In both lanes, I’m known for shining a light on others.

What I’m most proud of is finding and actively pursuing purpose-driven work. I strive to be a reflection of God’s light. I’m also genuinely proud that I’ve been able to follow both of my passions, journalism and photography, and that my work has resonated with and inspired millions.

What sets me apart is my accessibility. I’m always willing to hop on a call, not based on status or follower count, but to make a genuine connection. Whether you have five followers or five million, I’m happy to be a resource. Vanity metrics do not define how I show up for others.
