Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Maldonado.
Samantha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my journey at ilovekickboxing.com as a member for about 2 and a half years ago. My sister was helping to open this new kickboxing gym and I was intrigued and had some unwanted weight to shed so I gave the new workout a shot! I was a member for about 2 months when I was hired on and at that time I had lost about 7 lbs total and had gained some confidence that I was desperately lacking.
After the first 4 months of my time at ILKB I had lost 10 lbs and just 2 months later the last 10 lbs melted away! I never thought I could be in as great of shape as kickboxing helped me get into. I am a momma of 2 beautiful kiddos and I have been married to my amazing husband for 6 years and I really thought that my fitness days were over, kickboxing changed that for me. My passion has always been fitness and I am at my best when I am helping others reach their personal health and fitness goals.
I will be forever grateful that ILKB came to League City! It has been the most rewarding career I’ve ever had. The members inspire me daily and for the first time, I have truly allowed my fitness to be a journey and not a race with fad diets and crazy exercise regimens. If you are looking to find a group of individuals who will support and celebrate you along your journey to a new you, ILKB would be honored to walk by your side as you achieve your goals!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey was definitely not the smoothest, my fifth month I came down with appendicitis. This acute illness set me back about 2 weeks but I remember coming back to work with more motivation than ever. It was in that time that I lost my final 10 lbs and felt like a total rockstar.
Our community was also hit by hurricane Harvey that the following summer and it was one of the most devastating times of my life. My home was flooded and our studio had damage causing us to shut down for about 2 weeks. We made the best of it though and pulled through we are still rocking and rolling with the punches!

As the manager at ILKB League City, I am super proud to be part of a company that believes in bringing the best out of our members and employees. We cultivate growth in not only fitness but also in the relationships we build with our community. We are on a first name basis in our studio and if you will allow us we will truly become your family.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have to give credit where credit is due and my biggest cheerleader has been my little sister. She is the one who invited me to come to check out her new career and helped me get hired on as an instructor, she convinced our owners to promote me to her assistant manager and after she stepped down because she decided to grow her family and take a break from kickboxing I was promoted to manager and it has been one of the most challenging and rewarding rides thus far.
I also must give credit to my boss, Joe Warren, he believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and he along with his business partner Matthew Whitworth, have listened to me through the good times and tough times and have always encouraged me when I felt like giving up.
