Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Thompson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been creative, and it actually started with painting. I’d obviously paint on canvas and paper but then I began painting tees, which gave me my first real taste of fashion design. Then in 2009, right after high school, I launched my first brand, Purple Hollywood, where I produced my first fashion show and participated in over 20 others and started styling for photoshoots.
Around 2012, I shifted my focus to vintage and launched an online boutique called Dinero’s Closet. That experience really sharpened my skills in wardrobe styling and creative direction. From there, I started doing pop-ups and markets – both solo and with others – which taught me so much about bringing an online brand into the physical space. After over a decade of building that foundation, I’m now the co-founder of Daily Threads, my brick-and-mortar vintage shop here in Houston.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. Every project comes with its own set of challenges, and the fashion shows are always a real learning experience – some have been completely sold out, while others just had a handful of close friends and family in the audience. Also I’ve done alot of markets and I don’t always hit my sales goal at those but the experiences all have helped me grow as a business owner by teaching me that the ups and downs are a natural part of the journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in wardrobe styling, creative direction and curation. I’m honestly most proud of my perseverance. In high school I remember telling my counselor that I wanted to start a clothing line, there’s been no shortage of challenges since then and I’m really proud of myself for not giving up on my dreams. I’d say that my willingness to learn sets me apart, I really see myself as a student and a teacher. My journey in this industry has taught me alot so now I’m able to give advice to the next generation when they come to me looking for my input on how to start a business.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is God and community. Having God in my life helps me see and celebrate the big and small victories of this life, and I feel like without my people, I wouldn’t be here. From the events that I’ve produced to selling clothes, my community has always been there with me from the beginning.
