Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Amer.
Hi Sara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Sukar started from my love for coffee and matcha. I started by making drinks for my family and friends, and they always encouraged me to turn it into something more. I eventually began serving drinks from home, and what started as a small idea quickly grew with the support of my community and social media.
As more people discovered Sukar, I started receiving requests for private events, which inspired me to create the full mobile cart experience. Now, we serve coffee, matcha, mocktails, and mini pancakes at weddings, showers, corporate events, Pilates events, and other special celebrations throughout the Houston area.
It honestly took a lot of hard work, creativity, and learning as I went, but I’m so grateful for how far Sukar has come. I’m excited to continue growing, trying new ideas, and creating memorable experiences for every client we serve
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to run a business while also balancing work, school, and my personal life. When I first started Sukar, I honestly didn’t realize how much work happened behind the scenes. It’s so much more than simply making and serving drinks. I’ve had to learn everything one step at a time—from perfecting recipes and creating menus to pricing my services, communicating with clients, preparing for events, managing supplies, and learning how to lead a team.
There have been many long days, stressful events, last-minute changes, and moments when I’ve felt completely overwhelmed. Sometimes I’ve questioned whether I was doing things the right way, but every mistake and challenge has taught me something valuable. Running Sukar has pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me become more confident, responsible, and patient.
Thankfully, I’ve been blessed with an amazing support system. My sister has been by my side throughout this journey, helping me prepare for events, load and unload everything, set up the cart, serve guests, and clean afterward. My mom also plays a huge role behind the scenes by helping with preparation and keeping everything organized. I’m also grateful for a special someone who continues to support both me and Sukar and encourages me to keep chasing my dreams, even when things get difficult. And of course, I have to give a special shoutout to my neighbor Karen. She is the number one person I turn to whenever I need business advice, and she has always supported and believed in me. She has truly become like family to us. I honestly would not be where I am today without all of these incredible people, and Sukar would not be possible without their love, encouragement, and support.
Sukar may have started as my idea, but it has grown because of the people who continue to believe in me and my vision. Every challenge has helped both me and Sukar become stronger. I’m still learning every day, and I know I still have a long way to go, but I’m extremely proud and grateful for how far we’ve already come.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Sukar Co. is a Palestinian and Arab-owned mobile beverage and dessert cart based in the Houston area. The name “Sukar” means sugar in Arabic, which reflects both our cultural roots and the sweetness we hope to bring to every celebration. We specialize in handcrafted coffee, matcha, mocktails, and mini pancakes for weddings, bridal and baby showers, corporate events, Pilates events, birthdays, and other special celebrations.
What sets Sukar apart is the experience we create. We focus on making everything feel personal, beautiful, and memorable—from customized menus and unique drink flavors to premium garnishes, branded cup stickers, and a cart setup that matches each event’s theme. We also love experimenting with new flavors and creating drinks that taste just as good as they look.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how much Sukar has grown while still feeling personal. I never want it to feel like we are simply serving drinks. We are being trusted to be part of someone’s special moment, and I take that seriously. Sukar is built with a lot of love, creativity, and attention to detail. Whether someone places a local order or books us for an event, our goal is always to make their experience feel personal, memorable, and special.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always very creative and loved making things feel special. I was the type of person who would get an idea in my head and immediately want to bring it to life. I enjoyed trying new things, experimenting with different ideas, and adding my own personal touch to everything I did.
I’ve also always loved bringing people together and making the people around me happy. I started making coffee and matcha for my family and friends simply because I enjoyed seeing their reactions and creating something they loved. I never imagined those small moments would eventually turn into Sukar.
I’ve always been a big dreamer, but I’m also very determined. When I truly care about something, I put my whole heart into it. Looking back, I can see that Sukar is a reflection of who I’ve always been—it brings together my creativity, love for trying new flavors, attention to detail, and passion for creating experiences that make people feel special.
