Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Glaser.
Scott, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started this company due to the overwhelming need for honest and fair roofing contractors. Having been in construction in the past, I’ve seen my fair share of cheap work, bad fixes and building/homeowners being left with the same problem after having paid a “reputable” roofing company to make repairs.
Since in Texas, there is no roofing licensing requirement, anyone can start a roofing company. So it’s extra important to go online to check reviews, ask to see insurance and to see certifications. We got to where we are now by doing great quality work and taking care of people. We’ve said since the beginning that we’re here to build relationships and be less transactional.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It never is, is it? Our biggest struggle was at the end of our first year when we did some commercial metalwork for a client and we never got paid. It was at $20,000 + job and it was a hard lesson to learn. We now ask for a materials deposit on every job. Another tough lesson we learned was to invest in ourselves quicker. We are always looking to learn our trade at every opportunity and become better contractors.
Tpo Pros Roofing & Restoration – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a residential and commercial roofing contractor in Houston. We specialize in roof restorations which can save the builder owner time, money and leave them with a 20-year warranty from the manufacturer. This process essentially works on most flat roofs and some low sloped roofs. Essentially, instead of tearing a roof off to replace, we leave the existing roofs intact. We coat the entire roof with a white silicone that is UV/water resistant and adds another layer of protection if you will.
Although roof restorations are a part of our business, we also install commercial roofs, multifamily roofs, and residential homes. We like to think we’re different due to the transparency we give and being committed to quality installs.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Besides the fact that we have grown 100% over last year due to referrals, I’d say the proudest moment has been being able to help people out when they’re in need. Unfortunately, people often fall victim to the lowest priced contractor and usually end up with having paid someone to not fix the work the right way. It’s a very rewarding feeling to know we’re fixing things correctly and not cutting corners.
