Meet Scott Stokely LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Stokely.

Scott Stokely

Hi Scott, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started playing disc golf on the world’s first permanent frisbee golf course when it was the only course in the world. Growing up in the sport, I have found my passion: father figures, heroes, business partners, and friends. As I have been elected to the World Disc Golf Hall of Fame and am launching my newest venture as a disc manufacturer, I want to share some wisdom gained on the journey that has brought me here and appreciate those who have lifted me along the way.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have left the disc golf community on three occasions, and it has gone badly each time. I fell without the support system of players, promoters, and enthusiasts, but each time, my frisbee family has provided me with a path back. Each time, I have learned from my mistakes, and now I can give back.

Thanks for sharing that. Please tell us more about your business.
I have established my teaching as the Stokely Disc Golf Method. With the processes I developed, players of any skill or experience level can improve their performance to make the game of disc golf even more fun. With the money I earn through teaching, I provide free classes to individuals with Autism and other special needs, including those with physical disabilities. Disc Golf is highly adaptive, so players with limited abilities and impairments can still enjoy the game. It also provides an outlet to break the isolation that families living with developmental disabilities experience because the disc golf community embraces and supports everyone. I specialize in solving the puzzle that each individual with special needs presents to allow them to play the game with their friends and family. I have also traveled to parts of the world where disc golf has not been introduced or is struggling to take hold due to socioeconomic conditions. Through Stokely Discs, my golf disc manufacturing brand, I have plans to invest in those regions so those barriers can be reduced or removed, allowing everyone to enjoy this game that has given me so much.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I struggled with anger issues and learning how to be in the spotlight as a talented young player. The game of golf provides the opportunity for a personal growth journey that has strongly shaped my character. Role models in the sport showed me what being a man of integrity and honor was like. I also had drug abuse and addiction issues, which took me through some dark times. The constant support of the disc golf community allowed me to find myself when I was lost.
