Meet Sean Yi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Yi.

Hi Sean, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My family and I first came to Houston from New Orleans in 2009. We had to relocate out of the city due to the violence. We looked into Houston and were fascinated by the diversity of people and culture, which is one of the main reasons why we moved to Houston. Soho 7 Karaoke Bar first opened in the summer of 2018. The “7” stands for the 7 family members who have stuck together through thick and thin to help make not only this business prosper, but also help those in our circle prosper as well. But just like many things in life, there were many bumps along our road to success. My family literally started from the bottom to the top, eventually becoming the official owner of Korea Garden Restaurant and eventually opening Soho 7 Karaoke Bar.

We almost lost hope in the beginning when we were living in such poor and stressful environments but one thing that kept us going was hope. My father always told me to not lose hope. And that God will help us push through even the most difficult obstacles in life.

I’d also like to thank each one of our customers and close friends who have been with us from the beginning and that our success wouldn’t have been possible without them. And finally, I’d like to thank Voyage Houston for the chance to let me share my story.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it’s been a rough and bumpy road but by not giving up and having faith, the road became less bumpy and smoother as the years went by.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Signed Actor/model for Page Parkes talent agency My agent’s name is Addie and for any business inquiries, email addie@pageparkes.com.

I also am a personal trainer/boxing instructor who has many hobbies including traveling, fishing, golf and long walks on the beach

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was shy as a kid due to being over weight and constantly being bullied and made fun of. They would call me mean names and make fun of my ethnicity.

As I got older and the bullying wasn’t stopping my father encouraged me to get into boxing to defend myself but also to help with my confidence. And now, I can confidently say that I am proud of who I am and what I am.

I’m not too proud or too confident to the point of arrogance. I’m just not ashamed of who I am inside and out.
