So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A University of Oklahoma Alumni. I married my best friend from college because he has always told me the hard truths and I love him deeply for that. I am a mother of two little superheroes. I absolutely adore being a boy mom. On weekends, we always do a really nice breakfast where I let them cook with me. We recently started a series called “fun with food” just to let my little guys feel like the kids they watch on YouTube.
I have been recognized as one of Houston’s brightest CEO’s after turning a small company into one of Inc 5000’s Fastest growing companies in America.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a new business was a whole new struggle entirely. New businesses need structure and policy. They also need to learn how to market and sell. Even with all my knowledge and experience, there were still parts of the business I hadn’t experienced when I started my own business.
I had never worked so hard in my life. You learn quickly that though you’re working long days, most of those hours do not equate income. After many years in corporate America, that’s a really hard pill to swallow. But once all your processes are defined, it’s much easier to understand how to market and sell your product.
At that point, it’s just about understanding your target market so you can speak to them in ways that would appeal. I love what I do. I love the complexity and strategy.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Masterly Business Solutions – what should we know?
After receiving several accolades for my leadership and business acumen – I went to business for myself. Masterly Business Solutions is a Digital Marketing firm that specializes in web development and automation.
I truly believe it is strategic processes and automation that can grow a company exponentially even with a lack of resources. In my dream world – I would sit down with every small business owner in the world that is wearing too many hats. That is overwhelmed with those low skilled tasks or by the lack of clarity in their business. I want to sit down with them and help them DEFINE AND IMPROVE THEIR PROCESSES by looking at it step by step and mapping it all out. I would want to look at the best possible systems for them based on how they work – and recognize the actions in their process that we could AUTOMATE. I would want them to SEE THE RESULTS of that hard work – the well-oiled machines that their companies would become.
It’s my mission to be a resource to small businesses all over the US. It is a great honor to see my clients achieve substantial growth in their businesses even amid a pandemic.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have to start with my Dad. He taught my sister and my sister and me to work hard – he prepared us to work so hard that we could not be denied. My sister is my best friend and one of my biggest supporters. In fact, we’re starting a new program together to alleviate some pain points for entrepreneurs.
My husband, I’m not even sure I could put into words how much he’s done or how much he means to me. I couldn’t do what I do without his support.
I’ve had a few mentors over the years. People who saw things in me even when I didn’t see them in myself.
Last but not least, my Masterly team. I have been blessed to find phenomenal people who are willing to continue learning, training, and improving. Together we’ve built several things. We’ve even built a directory for minority business owners called sibhouston.com – it’s one of my favorite projects to date.
