Today we’d like to introduce you to Shae Lisa Jackson.
Hi Shae Lisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When Instagram first came out in 2011 I was just diagnosed with a brain lesion and had to quit my job at Hollister and put college on hold. I did nothing but go to doctor’s appointments and document everything on Instagram. I loved it. When I was finally able to go back to school I started a YouTube channel for fun. I believe that was the moment I really fell in love with creating for social media.
Shortly after I grew a small following and businesses began to reach content creation. I was a broke college student so any money was great! My first big-girl job out of college was for a huge Oil & Gas testing company based out of Australia. I was asked to run social media for the entire company, completely alone. Insane isn’t even the word to describe it. I ran over 80 social media accounts in several time zones and really trained me to rub my own company.
After leaving that company I started Shae Lisa Creative. Now, I get to choose the businesses I work with. I really enjoy creating content for people I connect with on personal levels.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have a chronic illness. I used to think my illness got in the way of my dreams but I think it really helps me not overwork myself. I would stay up late into the night working because I loved it so much.
Now, I take my health so seriously and let my clients know that I am proudly disabled. Before I sign clients they are fully aware that I may need to reschedule a meeting due to pain. I’m no longer afraid that I’ll lose my livelihood because of my health.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Helping businesses reach their marketing goals has been my passion for the past 8 years! There is no greater feeling than seeing the success my clients achieve by working with me. I’m not only passionate about what I do, but I also care. From huge corporations to start ups, I truly enjoy every single project.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have a lot of favorite childhood memories! My dad served the military for over 20 years so we moved around a lot. It was hard constantly making new friends so my family really became my rock. One of my favorite memories was grocery shopping with my grandfather every Saturday morning. Without fail we went up and down every single aisle. Our cart was rarely full but just getting to spend that hour or so with him was the best. If I could I would take a thousand pictures of us in the store to hold the memories beyond my life.
