Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanel Shotomiwa.
Shanel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well at Kidz Krazy, me and my husband started off with the idea was for school age children to come into our store and Stuff Teddy Bears, but not just any bear, a bear that would transform into their dream. We always thought children needed to identify with reality, so why not come into a store and build a Nurse, doctor, lawyer, or teacher. With so many distractions in today’s society it gets difficult trying to intrigue our children’s brain. When I walk into any store now with my kids to stuff or build a bear I’m essentially only building things that don’t really exist (Mickey Mouse, unicorn, etc.) and children need that example in the forefront. So then as time went on I thought to myself well we could have children come into the store and stuff their dreams and use their wild imagination with healthy play activities. We said an indoor play center would be perfect, Kids could come stuff a bear and pretend to grocery shop or take their bear to the doctor. All of this allows children to explore and participate in pretend play. Kids absolutely love it!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh my, the road has been extremely bumpy but the journey has been worth it. You know business is tough and one must be prepared for the highs and lows. Our main struggle was finding a building to lease. It took us 6 months to find a building, then the play equipment and the contractors were also a struggle. There was many things we learned along the way and will apply the knowledge to the next indoor play-center we open.
Kidz Krazy World – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Kidz Krazy World is Katy’s Texas newest indoor play center that is family owned and operated. Here at Kidz Krazy World we offer open play, special events, and parties. The play-center is unique for kids’ age 6 months to 7 years, allowing kids to explore and participate in pretend play. Here at Kidz Krazy World our goal is to educate children and provide hands on experience with kids using their wild imagination. Kids can build and stuff bears all while pretending to become singers, nurses, doctors, lawyers, construction workers, teachers, fire fighters and police officers all while having fun.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me and my husband varies in many different ways. We desire to build an empire that will last for decades. Our goal is for children to have the most magical time stuffing their dream bears and using their imagination to envision their future. We aim to provide children with a fun, fantastic and magical birthday party! This is the place where Kidz can be Kidz.
