Today we’d like to introduce you to Shan’nel Alexander and Jolina Moore.
They had been discussing starting a company together for a while as both ladies have great strengths between the two of them. Jolina has over a decade of being a licensed bar manager under her belt. Her customer service and communication skills are phenomenal. With her regular customers visiting the bar, it has allowing her to network and meet a variety of potential clients. Also meeting other small business owners who we can partner up with as an event planner.
Shan’nel has operated her own travel agency for the past 5 years and is great with organizing groups. She has her B/A in Business Marketing and loves to teach others social media marketing. Her creativity and knowledge of marketing will help with branding J&S Dolls
When a mutual friend asked the two of them to help organize a charity event they thought that it would be great to start their own event planning company. Between the two they have a large list of contractors that they can partner with.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
To be honest, we recently started the business a month ago and have not hit any bumps in the road. We have a great support system of clients and friends. Most of our current work has been referrals.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about J&S Dolls Events – what should we know?
We researched a lot of the event companies in the Houston area and found most of them are planning the same types of event such as baby showers, birthday parties, weddings, etc. There is nothing wrong with those types of events, but we thought Houston doesn’t need another events company that just does basic events. So we thought to specialize in events we would want to attend.
Our specialties include charity galas, social events, passion parties, and much more. All on a major city level. Most of our events will include invitations to invite the community out. Each event will be different from the last. However, we will consider private events such as graduation parties and birthday celebrations, but on a much bigger scale. Those will be handled case by case.
We hope to become a staple in the Houston area as a top small business. Our ultimate goal is to bring our success and ideas to other major cities as well.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I think our support group deserves credit as if it wasn’t for them believing in us to even follow our dream we may not have taken off with a bang. From our network of family, friends, and past clients it has been non-stop busy. The phone is constantly ringing and our email is constantly going. Keeping us plenty busy within our first month.
