Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharena Smith.
Sharena, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I guess I can start this story in 2008. I took a job as a receptionist at a medical spa, which quickly upgraded to Spa director within a year of employment. I’m one of those people that strives to be the very best at what I do, and to grow within the company was a piece of cake. That is until one day, the company was sold and the new owners came in, fired me, and replaced me with a part-time receptionist. I guess it’s safe to say that the new owners didn’t know my worth, but I later realized I was just about to find out my worth myself! Maybe about three months later, I jumped up and started a brand of my own in the medspa industry by the name of “Rejuve Med Spa,” which later became “Chemistry Lab.”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Well, for the most part, becoming the owner of my own company has been nothing less than blessed. I took a deep breath and stepped out on faith, and God hasn’t let me down since. The struggles that have come my way haven’t even really been struggles. They’ve been more of bumps in the road that have taught me and made me, my business, and my staff stronger. That’s the beauty of this whole thing.

So here I am today, owner of Houston’s 1st Ultimate Beauty Spa, offering all beauty services like nails, hair, skincare, lash extensions, post-operation services and more. What makes my brand different is the fact that we do IT ALL under one roof! Instead of booking appointments here, there and everywhere, The Lab is a place to go and take care of EVERYTHING. I wanted to start a brand that gives women just like myself a chance to build and never allow anyone the chance to snatch all they had worked for from under them. I want to leave that mark on anyone that comes in my path, that you too can do go after your dreams instead of working day in and out to build someone else’s.
What were you like growing up?
I can’t help but laugh when I think about myself as a child. I was the life of the room, party, classroom. You name it! Lol. The fun one, the funny one, the hard to be mad at one. Yep, that was me, But yet always determined to be the best me, always looking for ways to make those around me happy. Then and now.
