Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Gibson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sharon . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have a background in journalism with a degree in the major from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I’ve worked as a staff member and freelance writer for several newspapers as a news reporter, proofreader and editor.
Since moving to Houston in 2012, I have freelanced as a news reporter for the Houston Business Journal and edited college recommendation letters that my husband had written for his students. I wanted to do more on a consistent basis, so I thought I’d offer an editing and proofreading service. So, that’s how Fresh Eyes Editing Services was started.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thanks to resources like PayPal, Red Website Design UK, Handy Pixel Logo Design and Vistaprint, getting my logo and website designed and running was not a problem at all.
My biggest challenge is–apart from learning to navigate my WordPress dashboard–acquiring clients. I’ve placed ads in university newspapers in the Houston area as well as the Houston Chronicle, but so far I haven’t acquired any clients. However, I am busy working on my blog, On Grammar & Writing Well, which may attract interested clients.
Fresh Eyes Editing Services – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Fresh Eyes Editing Services offers one-on-one, personalized editing and proofreading services for projects in need of review. This would include resumes, brochures, graduate theses, and annual reports that require a good first impression to clients’ readers. Fresh Eyes Editing Services also offers On Grammar & Writing, a blog featuring a series on word usage and writing tips.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I’d say the proudest moment of my career was snagging an interview with actress and singer, Eartha Kitt. She was down to earth and gracious. Interviewing her was a joy.
