Meet Sharon Ku

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Ku.

Hi Sharon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! I’m Sharon, owner of Sharon Nicole Photography. I have always loved photography and taking my own photos. I decided to take a photography class in high school. I became the yearbook photographer shortly after that. After graduation, I went to college at the University of Texas, and I took jobs as an assistant for wedding photographers on weekends. I invested all of the money I earned into purchasing new equipment. After my college graduation, I moved back home to Sugar Land and decided to start my own business. I photographed weddings for 10 years before deciding to move to family and lifestyle photography. I also love Disney and fashion and frequently post on my personal Instagram account, @sharonnicole. I absolutely love my job and all of the people I meet and work with!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There’s always a learning curve when doing new things. I think it’s important to give yourself grace and learn from mistakes. It’s also okay to not say yes to every opportunity that comes your way. Owning your own business right out of college isn’t easy, but I am very thankful I am able to look at how much I’ve accomplished!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in family and lifestyle photography. Being a photographer is so much more than holding a camera and knowing how to use it. It’s important to make your clients feel comfortable. I try to make families feel at ease when I’m with them and get natural smiles in real, candid moments. I’ve spent years looking into different lighting situations and know what works best for photos too. When a client books a session with me, they are paying for expertise and experience in addition to the beautiful photos they will receive.

I also post a glimpse into my personal life on my social media accounts. I think this is important because it really shows who I am. I love when people feel like they know me because they’ve seen my most recent family adventures and normal daily life outside of my job. It’s been really fun for me to connect with clients on similarities we have and become friends with them over the years.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was very quiet as a little girl. I loved playing with dolls, stuffed animals and drawing. I loved swimming, riding my bike, and took ice skating lessons for a few years. My family traveled often, and we went to Disney all the time. I’ve continued that tradition with my family!
