Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawna Letcher.
Shawna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started about nine years ago when I was living in NYC. A good friend of mine and myself started a party promotions company called Red Myst Ent. Basically, we just did club parties. When I moved to Houston I connected with a few venues here and we expanded a little bit, then business died. I started back up two years ago again with club promotions and added concerts. I figured hey if I can do this I can do bigger events so I am now producing my first music festival. I have always had a passion for music and the entertainment industry.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. In fact, I have had to work twice as hard in this industry because I am a woman. We aren’t always taken seriously in this business. Just working to make a good solid name for myself and building long lasting business relationships has been a struggle but I somehow found a way.
Please tell us about Ame Entertainment.
I now specialize in the production of festivals and music concerts. That is what we are known for now. I am proud of the growth we have experienced from night clubs to bigger events. What sets us apart from others right now would be the genre of music we focus on which is Caribbean/reggae.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood would be spending time with my grandfather listening to his blues and jazz albums singing along and snapping my fingers. I would say it’s because of him I have the love for music that I have today.
