Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayla Pellerin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shayla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well I unofficially started Wifeylifefitness in 2014 while still living in Tallahassee, Fl. While engaged to my future husband and working a new sit down job I had put on a little happy weight. Like every bride, I wanted to make sure I looked good and started “sweating for wedding.” I became more active, joining a women’s fitness club and which started my addiction to fitness. I really enjoyed working out with friends and helping them achieve their fitness goals so I started doing outdoor bootcamps. I didn’t really view it seriously as an actual business until 2017, after moving to Texas and the birth of my daughter. About three months post-partum, I had severe anxiety and wasn’t quite feeling like myself. I found that personal workouts alone were ways to help me deal with this new found emotion. I would receive compliments and questions as to how I lost the “baby weight”(post pregnancy weight was the heaviest I have weighed in my life) so I decided to start up the bootcamps again to help out my friends. The friendship and fellowship shown through these women while doing the bootcamps really gave me the energy I needed to roll out Wifeylifefitness. People enjoyed this type of “no judgment” fitness sisterhood, it was just ladies coming together to make time for themselves while helping others accomplish their goals. Wifeylifefitness was a way to connect my purpose to my passion which manifested into the business I have today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been some struggles along the way! I have had personal struggles from infertility, post-partum anxiety and battling PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). As well as business struggles that pushed me out of my comfort zone of being a private person to being someone who is able share to share via social media. Theses struggles have taught me how to be vulnerable and transparent for the sake of helping others. They have also taught me how to set boundaries in all areas in life. I had to go from being a friend to trainer and back again. There is a very delicate balance, how not to be overly bossy but still be direct. I am extremely grateful for those lessons, they showed me how to see the silver lining in every struggle. Everything you experience teaches you and helps you grow. I’m continuously learning in my personal life and in the expansion of my business as well. For every down you have, there will be ups. The fact that I can help someone improve their life from my struggles makes it all worth it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wifeylifefitness story. Tell us more about the business.
Wifeylifefitness is a weight loss/coaching business for the women on the go. I like to say “a wifey life is a busy life”. It is important to remind women ( especially wives and mothers) that it’s okay to put yourself first. You definitely don’t have to marry or have kids though. You can still be busy if you only “wife” yourself. Women constantly put others before themselves, sometimes neglecting their worth.
Wifeylifefitness let’s you take care of yourself so you can take care of others. You can’t pour from a empty cup. I not only focus on changing the physical but the spiritual and mental as well. I believe that you can’t fully succeed in one without the other. Well, you can but it doesn’t bring about long term success. Wifeylifefitness is kind of like the training wheels you need to start a healthy lifestyle, There are no quick fixes or short cuts, just dedication and hard work. That is something in which I can be proud.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Well, I don’t know that believe in “luck,” I believe that everything happens for a reason. With that being said, I do notice that things align differently based on your mindset. I definitely see a correlation when I have a “negative” or “positive” mindset. No matter what luck I have, I always try to find the lesson.
