Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Ybarra.
Sheila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born in Hollywood, California and raised in Southern California. I did not always aspire to be a makeup artist. Rather, I worked as a mechanical estimating engineer for 6 years upon moving to Texas in 1990. I was raised that it was more important to have brains than beauty but I had a passion for makeup. I had a side hobby of hair and makeup artistry and was still working as an Estimator for Flour Daniel Engineering. I decided I wanted to follow my passion over my profession, so I gave up engineering for a curling iron and makeup brushes
It obviously was a great call because my part-time business took off and I had to quit my job. I started attracting the NFL and T stations like MTV, ETV! and Martha Stewart Magazine within months of working and the strong credentials was adding up. I started a personal grooming and communication development company called Image Consulting. Later founded my image consulting company under the name Makeup by Sheila. “You have to have that mentality – that it’s going to happen – in order to make it,”
I soon realized the greatest aspect about my makeup services and products are that I need to make them available to the general public. I started teaching makeup lessons and selling my own custom line of cosmetics and airbrush makeup sets. Although I has done exceptional work for print, runway, models, and celebrities, my services are attainable and affordable. The majority of my clients are professional pageant contestants but there are also the everyday clients such as business-women, college students, and brides-to-be. That is the best part about my job – meeting wonderful women all over the world.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been very fortunate that my business was blessed from the very beginning. I have a God-given talent and I believe God had blessed my business from the start. I give all the glory to God,

With my one-on-one Videotaped lesson, however, you are able to take home new techniques, all new makeup products, a video and the confidence of the makeup application to learn in a three-hour lesson! You will learn to be confident in achieving your look, specialized just for you! Whether it be a day or night look my private sessions start at $500, and that includes all your makeup!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment is when I taught my teenage daughter Skylar Bantz how to do her own Airbrush Makeup Lesson and she was 1st runner-up at Miss Texas Teen USA 2018 and this is the preliminary pageant to Miss Teen USA. Nothing made me more excited to see her execute her look on stage flawlessly.
