Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheldon Nixon.
Hi Sheldon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I learned how to drive trucks at the age of 13. I obtained my Class A CDL at 21 and became an over-the-road truck driver. I started a family in my late twenties, and by that time I had experienced my fair share of tough times and shady operations in the trucking industry. My wife and several other trusted contacts saw more in me than being just a truck driver, so I stepped out on faith and opened a freight brokerage with the sole intention of solving critical transportation problems and paying high-level truck drivers what they are truly worth
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Early on, we faced fraud from bad actors in the industry and pushed through slow seasons and periods of low income. Those challenges could have broken us, but they didn’t. I thought I knew God before, but becoming an entrepreneur revealed something deeper. Being truly locked in with God isn’t just helpful, it’s the only way. I’m grateful for every obstacle, because each one brought me closer to Him.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Yes, the biggest risk that I have ever taken was stepping out on faith, leaving the driver’s seat, and becoming a freight broker. I had no idea how I was going to provide for my family, but I knew one thing for certain, I could not afford to be complacent. God has never once failed me, and I was not about to let fear stop me from walking into what He in store had for me.
