Meet Sheree Terrell of The One Beauty Salon in Copperfield Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheree Terrell.

Sheree, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a former salon owner/ stylist from a small town in Mississippi. I just recently relocated to Houston TX three years ago without a single client. I started out working in a salon by the name if black butterfly hair studio near Katy where I build my clientele & was able to branch out on my own two years later. I’ve now been at my current location for a year & I can’t be more blessed. It was hard enough moving here without any clients, & even harder making the decision to branch out on my own. My husband, Gary Terrell played a big part & his support drove me to explore my dreams even if I fail. I have so much to offer to my Houston clients. They have become my extended family & for that, I am forever grateful. I aim for 100% satisfaction. I do my best to make sure my clients are comfortable with their environment, pleased with their services, in & out in a timely matter, & last but not least; being offered the greatest recommendation & advice for their hair care needs. I offer services to cancer patients, clients with modern to severe cases of alopecia, relaxed clients, natural clients, & kids. I have ten years of experience & when it comes to hair, my motto speaks for itself. “If your hair is not becoming to you, you need to be coming to me!”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was rather smooth in the beginning when I was in Mississippi. Reason being is the simple fact that I had clients before going to beauty school & I also gained clients after beauty school. It was never hard for me because I’m from a small town where everyone knows everybody. Word of mouth traveled to places you’ve never been. Another thing is I offered services that others didn’t. Even when I transitioned to Houston TX, it wasn’t much of a struggle. The key to success & marketing is to offer something that your competitors do not. I can truly say, that’s one of the reasons my business stands out & is forever growing.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The One Beauty Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
The name of my business is The One Beauty Salon. The name was given to me by my husband & he would remind me everyday that I was the one. At first, I wasn’t feeling the name, because I felt as if I was bragging on my self because surely everyone should feel like they are the one. Then I felt like it just began to grow on me. I felt like I really was the one considering all the different services I offered. I specialize in natural hair, relaxers, color, locs, extensions, braids, updos, alopecia clients, clients going through & overcoming cancer. With everything I have to offer, I now think the name of my business fits perfectly. Most people call me the one & the word on the street is she does it all!!!! I’m more proud of my ability to put a smile on my client’s face when they leave my chair. Often times individuals come to my salon feeling depressed, stress, & confused, but before their session is over, they leave feeling & looking like a different person. The thing that set me apart is my humble spirit, communication skills, level of knowledge in the hair industry, & the ability & honesty to let a client know what’s possible & impossible when it comes to the decision about their hair care or hairstyle of choice.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say there’s such thing as luck & bad luck in this business. I will say you get back in return what you put out. Nothing plus nothing equals nothing. I can tell you a few items in which to receive growth & positive feedback in this industry. Treat your current clients with the utmost respect & make sure they are satisfied with their services. A word of mouth goes a long way. They will send more clients your way. Find your target audiences & market to them. Know your worth & charge it. I’m not big on discounts, but I am willing to add a freebie or gifts of appreciation. Discounts have been known to attract a certain clientele for me, & in order to keep those particular clients, you will have to always offer a discount. It’s a way of not allowing your business to grow into its full potential.
