Meet Sherrill Crisp of Crisp Floral Design in Southwest Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrill Crisp.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sherrill. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture and an emphasis in floral design. I interned at a large event design company, Todd Events, where I grew to love weddings and events. After this, I decided to start my own floral design business. I’ve had other jobs over the years, but always maintained my love for flowers and working with clients on some of the most special days of their lives.

Our family relocated to Houston in June of 2018, and I have been gradually growing my business here since that time. I have had some great opportunities here so far, and am optimistic about Crisp Floral Design’s future in Houston!

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! Since beginning this flower venture, I have relocated to 4 different cities. Every time is seems that business is really blooming (pun intended), I am pulled in a different direction for various reasons. My husband’s career led us to Houston, which we feel could very well be our forever home.

I have also had 2 babies since 2015, keeping my hands very full since that time! Juggling motherhood, while pursuing my passion has definitely had its challenges. It has been so encouraging to meet other “mompreneurs” (entrepreneur moms) in Houston who have the same challenges and demands. The support we have for each other as we navigate this unique time in our lives is very special.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Crisp Floral Design story. Tell us more about the business.
Crisp Floral Design is a boutique florist specializing in weddings, events, and special occasion flowers. Since moving to Houston, we have started offering flower design workshops and held a pop-up shop. Plans are in place to begin a monthly subscription service and we expect to have more pop-ups in the near future!

I am proud of the fact that I have a close working relationship with each client and value customer satisfaction above all else. The customer experience comes first and I believe this sets us apart.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the floral industry is beginning to realize that collaboration is more important than competition, especially here in Houston. This allows us to learn from each other and grows the industry as a whole. This seems to be very unique from most other industries.

I see bold color combinations and new neutrals being incorporated more often. I especially love the “chocolate” flower color trend, and expect to see more yellow and mustard color palettes. More artistic flower designs are being showcased, especially in weddings! It’s so exciting to see clients willing to do something different and unique. Florists also have so many more flower choices than they did 10 years ago due to advancements in cultivated varieties and shipping logistics. Having these options along with easily accessible bleached, dyed, and dried products allows for many more design possibilities for floral designers.
